1. Assessing the sources of high fecal coliform levels at an urban tropical beach
Recreational water quality is commonly assessed by microbial indicators such as fecal coliforms. Maceió is the capital of Alagoas state, located in tropical northeastern Brazil. Its beaches are considered as the most beautiful urban beaches in the country. Jatiúca Beach in Maceió was found to be unsuitable for bathing continuously during the year of 2011.

2. Clustering of water bodies in unpolluted and polluted environments based on Escherichia coli phylogroup abundance using a simple interaction database
Different types of water bodies, including lakes, streams, and coastal marine waters, are often susceptible to fecal contamination from a range of point and nonpoint sources, and have been evaluated using fecal indicator microorganisms. The most commonly used fecal indicator is Escherichia coli, but traditional cultivation methods do not allow discrimination

3. Caracterização ambiental e estimativa da produção de cargas difusas da área de drenagem da represa de Itupararanga, SP / Environmental characterization and estimative of diffuse pollution of Itupararanga watershed, SP
The use of satellite images has improved the study of the land use dynamics. Land cover mapping have become fundamental tools in the assessment of landscape changes caused by human action and its influence on regional and urban planning. Computation tools such as Geographic Information Systems and hydrological models have supported these findings. The hydrol

4. Identificação dos sistemas de produção agropecuária do arenito caiuá sujeitos a erosão utilizando o modelo AGNPS
The series of impacts due to the inadequate exploitation of natural resources by agriculture produces, among other effects, the erosion of the soils, which causes serious damage to the society through the reduction of its productive capacity and the continuous contamination of surface water with sediments, material and organic matter, chemical products and n

5. Modelo SWAT2005 aplicado Ãs sub-bacias dos rios Conrado e Pinheiro â Pato Branco-PR / Model SWAT2005 aplicability to conrado and pinheiro river watersheds - Pato Branco/PR

In catchments where the threat of impairment is due to non-point pollution, identifying the critical areas that contribute a large amount of pollutants is of paramount importance for the sustainable development of the watershed. Often resources for catchments management are poor and there is no way to establish a comprehensive monitoring system or to calibra

7. AnÃlise multivariada na identificaÃÃo dos fatores determinantes da qualidade da Ãgua na Bacia HidrogrÃfica do Rio Jaibaras-Cearà / Analysis multivariate in the identification of the determinative factores of the quality of the water in the watershed of Rive Jaibaras-CearÃ.
Aiming to identify the apportionment of pollution sources/factors with a view to get better information about the water quality at Jaibaras watershed, a research composed of three steps was developed. In the first step (Step I), it was identified the water pollution sources at the upland of Jaibaras watershed until Ayres de Souza dam. The survey occurred fro

8. Quantification of impervious surfaces in urban areas using remote sensing techniques / Quantificação das superfícies impermeáveis em áreas urbanas por meio de sensoriamento remoto
Impervious surface coverage growth has direct consequences in quantity and quality of stormwater runoff, such as floods and nonpoint source pollution. The quantification of basins imperviousness makes possible to use it as a water quality indicator for urban areas and as an important planning and managing instrument in the urban water resources management sy

9. A WATERSHED INFORMATION SYSTEM (WIS) FOR WATER QUALITY ANALYSES
Assessments of water quality in surface water bodies are increasingly incorporating both point and non-point pollutant sources. Water quality constituents are transported in the water as well as on the sediments. Predictions of constituent concentrations in the water and on the sediments require simulation models of water and sediment transport processes ove

10. Streamflow and sediment yield simulation within a small watershed through geoprocessing and modeling techniques. / Simulação de escoamento e de produção de sedimentos em uma microbacia hidrográfica utilizando técnicas de modelagem e geoprocessamento.
Hydrological and water quality models have been developed to evaluate the nonpoint source pollution in agricultural watershed. With this objective, SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model was applied to simulate the streamflow and sediment yield in Ribeirão dos Marins watershed, on the Piracicaba river basin, Brazil, for the period 1999/2000. The applic

11. Association of multiple-antibiotic-resistance profiles with point and nonpoint sources of Escherichia coli in Apalachicola Bay.
A total of 765 Escherichia coli isolates from point and nonpoint sources were collected from the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, and their multiple-antibiotic-resistance (MAR) profiles were determined with 10 antibiotics. E. coli isolates from point sources showed significantly greater resistance (P < 0.05) to antibiotics and higher MAR ind

12. Use of 16S-23S rRNA Intergenic Spacer Region PCR and Repetitive Extragenic Palindromic PCR Analyses of Escherichia coli Isolates To Identify Nonpoint Fecal Sources
Despite efforts to minimize fecal input into waterways, this kind of pollution continues to be a problem due to an inability to reliably identify nonpoint sources. Our objective was to find candidate source-specific Escherichia coli fingerprints as potential genotypic markers for raw sewage, horses, dogs, gulls, and cows. We evaluated 16S-23S rRNA intergenic
