27. Obtenção de inoculante e de coquetel enzimático lignocelulolítico a partir de comunidades microbianas termofílicas / Acquisition of an inoculant and a lignocellulolytic enzymatic cocktail from thermophilic microbial communities
Three thermophilic lignocellulolytic microbial communities were selected by enriched method with continual subcultivation at 55 C. One community was selected from cow manure compost, another from decaying sugar cane bagasse, and the last one was obtained by mixing aliquots of the culture suspension from the first two. Those communities were able to degrade a

28. Evaluation of different media for the production of cephalosporins by Streptomyces clavuligerus ATCC 27064
The aim of this work was to compare the composition of a complex and soluble culture medium to eight other media described in the literature through the batch cultivation in a conventional bench-scale bioreactor for the production of cephamycin C by a wild strain of Streptomyces clavuligerus. The proposed medium resulted in an antibiotic production 1.5 to 7.

29. Comparison between continuous and batch processing to produce xylanase by penicillium canescens 10-10c
Penicillium canescens 10-10c strain was cultivated on barley straw hydrolysate as a soluble nutrient source and as inducer for xylanase production. Barley straw hydrolysate was obtained by treatment of barley straw with NaOH or hot water. In shake flask cultures, NaOH treatment was found to increase the biomass production, but was not accompanied by an incre

30. Biodegradação de paclobutrazol por Pseudomonas spp. em sistemas de solo saturados
Paclobutrazol is growth regulator of plants that has low mobility in soil and therefore has accumulated. The objective of this study was to investigate the paclobutrazol biodegradation in two soils from the São Francisco River Valley. The biodegradation experiments were conducted in batch using paclobutrazol and paclobutrazol added glycerol. The experiments

31. Detecção e isolamento de anelovírus em suínos e cultivos celulares. / Detection and isolation of anelloviruses in pigs and in cell lineages
Preliminary studies aiming the identification of possible viral agents associated with the postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) revealed a possible negative association between TTSuV1 and occurrence of PMWS. Based on this finding was hypothesized that TTSuV1 might be able to inhibit the PCV2 multiplication, preventing the development of PMWS. To

32. High cell density strategy for poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) production by Cupriavidus necator
Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P(3HB)) is a carbon and intracellular storage source for different microorganisms and its production can achieve high productivities by means of high cell density cultures. The aim of this study was to propose a high cell density strategy for P(3HB) production by Cupriavidus necator. The exponential growth phase demands an accurate c

33. Evaluation of caries-affected dentin with optical coherence tomography
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the degree of demineralization of artificially induced caries-affected human dentin by an in vitro microbiological method. The occlusal surfaces of 6 human molar teeth were abraded until a flat surface was obtained, and the enamel was removed to expose the occlusal dentin surface. These teeth were sectioned in 12 hal

34. Growth and biopigment accumulation of cyanobacterium Spirulina platensis at different light intensities and temperature
In order to find out optimum culture condition for algal growth, the effect of light irradiance and temperature on growth rate, biomass composition and pigment production of Spirulina platensis were studied in axenic batch cultures. Growth kinetics of cultures showed a wide range of temperature tolerance from 20 ºC to 40 ºC. Maximum growth rate, cell produ

35. Production and characterization of PHA from recombinant E. coli harbouring phaC1 gene of indigenous Pseudomonas sp. LDC-5 using molasses
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are biodegradable and biocompatible green thermoplastics, synthesized by wide variety of bacteria as an intracellular carbon and energy storage intermediate. They are used as an alternative to nonrenewable petroleum derived plastics. The current interest in these biopolyesters is stimulated by the search for cost-effective capital

36. Influence of agitation speeds and aeration rates on the Xylanase activity of Aspergillus niger SS7
In this study, the effect of agitation and aeration rates on xylanase activity of Aspergillus niger SS7 in 3-litre stirred tank bioreactor was investigated. The agitation rates tested were 100, 200 and 300 rpm at each airflow rates of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 vvm. The maximum xylanase activity in mono- agitator system was at the agitation speed of 200 rpm and aerati
