RESUMO
This dissertation seeks to understand how the space transformations resulting from of an urbanization process can modify the social-spatial practices of the inhabitants coming from an area in analysis. More precisely, we searched to understand how establishments as Shopping Centers and its processes of centrality consolidation can change the day life of the inhabitants of its neighborhood. Our focus of interest falls, therefore, in the alterations of the socialspatial practices developed by them in its suburbs. This is why we consider the theoretical reference of the Social Representations of utmost importance, elaborated based on the experience of the social groups, integrating the affective, mental and social aspects of the people. Thus, the inhabitant representations of the area lead us to the understanding of the reasons that make them act in such manners in some places, understanding them as places or displacements spaces. Therefore, we started from the idea that place is different from space because of the relationship between the man and the environment, as it fulfills of meanings. It was analyzed in this research the neighborhood of the area where the Hiper Center Casa Forte and Plaza Shopping Casa Forte are inserted, which together works as a Commercial Complex
