RESUMO

The forms of assessment of learning in virtual environments are still quite discussed. While the process of summative evaluation is reasonably settled and regulated by the Brazilian legislation through the need to make presential tests, the process of formative evaluation has required that educators monitor the progress of students, keeping them motivated, clarify doubts and apply periodic tests in order to assess performance and identify the difficulties of learning. This whole scenario is even more serious and requires more time of dedication when the courses include a large amount of students. Based on the study of the activities of a tutor in the process of distance education, on the collaborative approach and analysis of competing processes of assessment in other virtual learning environments, this work presents a model to support the tutor mediated by software agents in the process of formative evaluation of students. This model contains software agents that perform the role of learning companions. Thus, they monitor the actions of the students on accessing to the virtual learning environment and access to instructional materials of the course, providing an environment for promoting cooperation and communication between students and tutor. Such a cooperation is set by sending messages to students, calling them to remain active in the activities of the course. The model also presents an environment where it is possible to prepare, to public and to correct the tests, compiling all the results of the studentâs performance in the order to facilitate and provide information that helps the tutor in the complex role of formative evaluation
