25. Performance and carcass characteristics of lambs fed a solution of cheese whey during feedlot and pre-slaughter lairage
ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate performance and carcass and meat characteristics of lambs fed a solution of cheese whey plus water (100 g kg−1 dry matter) (CW) during feedlot and pre-slaughter lairage. Data were analyzed as a 2 × 2 factorial (place – feedlot and slaughterhouse, food – water or CW). We evaluated the following treat

30. Occurence and antimicrobial resistance of Arcobacter species in food and slaughterhouse samples
Abstract The objectives of this study were i) to isolate Arcobacter species (Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacter skirrowii, Arcobacter cryaerophilus) from different foods and sources, ii) to verify the isolates by multiplex PCR assay, iii) to detect the antibiotic resistance profiles of the isolates. In this study a total of 60 Arcobacter isolates were obtained.

31. VALIDAÇÃO DO PROCESSO DE ELETROCOAGULAÇÃO E AVALIAÇÃO DA ELETRODISSOLUÇÃO DE ELETRODOS NO TRATAMENTO DE EFLUENTES DE ABATEDOUROS DE AVES
The electrocoagulation have been considered a promising technology for wastewater food treatment. This paper evaluates the application of electrocoagulation for the treatment of poultry slaughterhouse wastewater using two types of electrode, iron and aluminum. The initial pH, the electrolysis time and the electrical current density were used as the operating

32. STABILITY OF PARTIAL NITRITATION OF POULTRY SLAUGHTERHOUSE WASTEWATER IN A SEQUENTIAL BATCH REACTOR
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to monitor the stabilization of a sequential batch reactor (SBR) regarding the partial nitritation of poultry slaughterhouse wastewater, aiming at preparing it for a reactor with bacteria that promote anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox). A cylindrical reactor with a useful volume of 3.5 L, mechanical agitation (50 rpm), a

33. Composted slaughterhouse sludge as a substitute for chemical fertilizers in the cultures of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and radish (Raphanus sativus L.)
Abstract Flotation sludge (FS) is produced in huge amounts at slaughterhouses in western Santa Catarina, Brazil. This waste is rich in plant nutrients and a valuable resource for soil amendments. Five FS composts were tested as a replacement for chemical fertilizers (QF), namely T1 (75% poultry manure (PM) and 25% sawdust (SD)); T2 (50% PM and 50% SD); T3 (2
