25. Monoamines in the pedal plexus of the land snail Megalobulimus oblongus (Gastropoda, Pulmonata)
In molluscs, the number of peripheral neurons far exceeds those found in the central nervous system. Although previous studies on the morphology of the peripheral nervous system exist, details of its organization remain unknown. Moreover, the foot of the terrestrial species has been studied less than that of the aquatic species. As this knowledge is essentia

This study aimed to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of the clam Anomalocardia brasiliana and evaluate the stock recovery of this species in relation to the clam number and size after extraction in summer and winter in Mangue Seco, Pernambuco. In the first study, the beach (1800 m) was divided into three sections (S): S1 0 to 600m, S2 600 and 12

28. Biomphalaria molluscs (Gastropoda: Planorbidae) in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
The present study was aimed at characterising Biomphalaria species using both morphological and molecular (PCR-RFLP) approaches. The specimens were collected in 15 localities in 12 municipalities of the southern region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The following species were found and identified: Biomphalaria tenagophila guaibensis, Biomphalaria

29. An improvement of calcium determination technique in the shell of molluscs

30. Maintenance of filtering molluscs in aquaria for sub-chronic studies

31. Estudo populacional de Stramonita haemastoma (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia) / A population study of Stramonita haemastoma (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia))
In this study, Stramonita haemastoma individuals, a gastropod who inhabits marine rocky shores, were analysed through isozymes electrophoresys and traditional morphometrics. Nine localities in the brazilian shore, extending from Santa Catarina to Rio de Janeiro were sampled. In a preliminary study, a genetic distinction in two different groups was detected.

Characterization of Vibrio cholerae, V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus in samples from the coastal region of São Paulo state, Brazilian ports and ship ballast tanks.

The malacoculture (cultivation of shellfish) is the second most significant activity of the Brazilian mariculture, where the cultivation of bivalve molluscs (mussels, oysters and scallops) stands out nationally. The bivalves show an excellent nutritional value when they are used as food by humans, containing a great biological value of protein, low in fat, v

35. Natural invertebrate hosts of iridoviruses (Iridoviridae)
Invertebrate iridescent viruses (IIVs) are icosahedral DNA viruses that infect invertebrates, mainly insects and terrestrial isopods, in damp and aquatic habitats. Exhaustive searches of databases resulted in the identification of 79 articles reporting 108 invertebrate species naturally infected by confirmed or putative iridoviruses. Of these, 103 (95%) were

36. Avaliação da contaminação de ostras (Crassostrea rhizophorae) por especies de Cryptosporidium e Giardia em um ambiente de estuario do litoral de São Paulo / Evaluation of the contamination of oysters (Crassostrea rhizophorae) by species of Cryptosporidium and Giardia in a estuarine environment from São Paulo coast
Bivalve molluscs are great filter feeders that may accumulate and concentrate substances, particles and even pathogens in their tissues, if the places that they inhabit or are cultivated receive contaminated effluents dispose. These animals, which serve as biological indicators of faecal contamination, may transmit the protozoa accumulated in their tissues,
