1. Seroprevalence of Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii in dogs from an urban area of North-eastern Brazil: a spatial approach
Abstract INTRODUCTION: The present study aimed to assess the seroprevalence and spatial distribution of Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii in dogs. METHODS: Blood samples (n = 241) were collected and analyzed for the presence of anti-N. caninum and anti-T. gondii antibodies. The spatial distribution was evaluated using kernel density estimation (KDE).

2. Seasonality of sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) and Leishmania DNA detection in vector species in an area with endemic visceral leishmaniasis
BACKGROUND Leishmaniases are a serious health problem in southeast Brazil, including the city of Belo Horizonte (BH), Minas Gerais state (MG), where there are high rates of incidence and mortality due to visceral leishmaniases. BH is divided into nine sanitary districts (SD) of which one, the Venda Nova SD, was selected for this study because it has high r

3. Human and canine visceral leishmaniasis in an emerging focus in Araçuaí, Minas Gerais: spatial distribution and socio-environmental factors
This study aimed to analyse the spatial distribution of human (2007-2013) and canine (2013) visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in the city of Araçuaí, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and identify the socio-environmental factors related to their occurrence. The spatial distribution of human and canine cases was analysed by kernel density estimation (KDE) and the K function.

4. The spatiotemporal trajectory of a dengue epidemic in a medium-sized city
Understanding the transmission dynamics of infectious diseases is important to allow for improvements of control measures. To investigate the spatiotemporal pattern of an epidemic dengue occurred at a medium-sized city in the Northeast Region of Brazil in 2009, we conducted an ecological study of the notified dengue cases georeferenced according to epidemiol

Fora

7. A maximum margin-based kernel width estimator and its application to the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy
INTRODUCTION: Function induction problems are frequently represented by affinity measures between the elements of the inductive sample set, and kernel matrices are a well-known example of affinity measures. METHODS: The objective of the present work is to obtain information about the relations between data from a calculated kernel matrix by initially assumin

8. Desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta de identificação de cruzeiros de pesca e análise geoespacial para o pregrama nacional de rastreamento de embarcações pesqueiras por satélite (PREPS)
Fisheries and related activities are extremely important for Brazilian economy and culture. Nonetheless, its sustainability depends on the preservation of natural resources and the management of the fishing activity itself. One of the greatest initiatives for managing industrial fishery by the Brazilian government was the creation of the Programa Nacional de

9. The use of the random nucleus for identification of clubs of convergence between Brazilian states and cities / O uso do nÃcleo estocastico para identificaÃÃo de clubes de convergÃncia entre estados e municÃpios brasileiros
The studies about convergence in Brazil have concentrated in the β and σ- convergence analysis. In this thesis is presented a new methodolgy to study convergence, that analyses how the income distribution among brazilian states and municipalities evolves over the time. Three kinds of estimation are done: a) kernel smoothed densities are estimated t

10. Hardy-Weinberg Testing for Continuous Data
Estimation of allelic and genotypic distributions for continuous data using kernel density estimation is discussed and illustrated for some variable number of tandem repeat data. These kernel density estimates provide a useful representation of data when only some of the many variants at a locus are present in a sample. Two Hardy-Weinberg test procedures are
