1. Rapid palatal expansion: a comparison of two appliances
This study analyzed occlusal radiographs to compare the transverse changes produced in patients treated with rapid maxillary expansion using two types of appliances. The sample consisted of 31 children aged 7 to 10.6 years, of both genders, with posterior cross-bite. Fifteen children were treated with a tooth-borne expander and 16 were treated with a tooth-t

7. Uma ferramenta da apoio à engenharia reversa orientada a objetos de legados - FAROOL.
This project objectives the development of a support tool to the reverse engineering process for procedimental legacy systems implemented in COBOL, in order to be facilitating their recovery. The FAROOL (Ferramenta de Apoio à engenharia Reversa Orientada a Objetos de Legados) is a guide to software engineers in the reverse engineering process that is based

8. X-ray fiber diffraction evidence for neighbor exclusion binding of a platinum metallointercalation reagent to DNA.
Good quality x-ray diffraction patterns have been obtained of polycrystalline fibers containing 2-hydroxyethanethiolato(2,2'2"-terpyridine)platinum(II) bound to calf thymus DNA by intercalation. The photographs strongly support the neighbor exclusion binding model in which electron-dense platinum atoms are regularly distributed at 10.2 A intervals, every oth

9. INTERBASE VIBRATIONAL COUPLING IN G:C POLYNUCLEOTIDE HELICES
The carbonyl stretching vibrations of G and C residues undergo frequency changes when a helical complex is formed from nonordered G and C components. We have prepared a series of two-stranded G:C helices having chemical and isotopic (18O) substitutions which lead to variation of the observed vibrational frequencies. Infrared spectra of these helices clearly

10. The effect of bisulfite modification on the template activity of DNA for DNA polymerase I1
Cytosine residues of poly(C) and heat-denatured calf thymus DNA were transformed into 5,6-dihydrouracil-6-sulfonate (U(SO−3)) residues by treatment with bisulfite. The poly(U(SO−3)2, C3) and poly(U(SO−3)9, C1) prepared did not form inter-base binding with either poly(A) or poly(I) as judged by the absence of hypochromicity in ultraviolet absorbance. U(

11. The role of a minor groove spine of hydration in stabilizing poly(dA).poly(dT) against fluctuational interbase H-bond disruption in the premelting temperature regime.
Experimental estimates of the premelting Adenine-Thymine base pair opening probability for some B-DNA sequences are two orders of magnitude smaller than those of other B-DNA sequences. The AT pairs in the sequence with smaller open probability seem to be those that have a well defined spine of hydration in the minor groove. We show that this spine of hydrati

12. Effect of the Removal of the Y Base on the Conformation of Yeast tRNAPhe
The effect of removing the Y base from the anticodon loop of yeast tRNAPhe has been examined by high-resolution proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and optical melting. Analysis of the changes in the nuclear magnetic resonance spectra indicate that the removal of the Y base produces a small conformational change in the anticodon stem in which all
