RESUMO

The main objective of this work is to discuss the educational process in Electrical Engineering courses, especially in the one established in FEEC-Unicamp, proposing the principles of a humanistic education which encompasses the "individual as a whole", transcending a purely technical view. Our approach is rooted on the following grounds: activity theory, concepts taken from Paulo Freire and Josef Pieper, and the central considerations outlined by STS. These pillars led us to a triad: dialog, commitment to neighbors and the philosophic search for truth. This triad takes form in the context of the human quest for "being more", and can sustain itself only in a critical and holistic learning environment. From these humanistic values, and focusing on the premises of activity theory, we propose a pedagogic methodology, which conjugates Ausubel s ideas and the essence of collaborative groups. This proposal was tested and analyzed in two case studies (two undergraduate courses taught at FEEC). Finally, we also present some remarks concerning the engineering curriculum at the light of the exposed conception.
