RESUMO

Strictly functional structures did not demonstrate what the company did, for whom it did it nor how it was done. This management model, from the end of the 1980s, began to seek new bearings under a more systematic vision, which provides enormous gains in time when analyzing the results of interventions in organizational processes: the non-existence of a vision of the organizational processes generates redundant activities and those that do not add any value whatsoever to their clients. The vision by processes gives priority to analyzing the organizationsÂs functions, by taking a perspective of activities sequenced in a logical and temporal manner. It was based on this vision that this research study set out to draw up a model of an Information System (IS), for lato sensu post-graduate courses. The methodology used in planning the ISs was BSP (Business System Planning), an approach in which the base support to information systems is the process of the business. In order to build the structure of the IS of the organization studied in this paper, the data had to be identified, and how they are shared by the functions and their respective processes. The mapping of the processes allowed the interfunctional systems to be identified. Faced with the limitation on resourcing, the BSP study also made it viable to order the implementation of the information system modules identified with the use of this methodology. Using BSP ratified the consensus in the literature that no investment will be satisfactory, if planning the IS is not aligned to the planning of the business. Therefore, Information Technology (IT) and the financial resources of an organization cannot be seen as the only ingredients for its success. Investment must be decided upon, considering not only the financial gains, but also the strategic gains
