RESUMO

Itâs presented the analysis of the urban residential architectonic typology in SÃo LuÃs City, State of MaranhÃo, based on the methodological principles established by the Italian architectâs theory â Saverio Muratori. From this theory, that establishes an approach and comprehension methodology of the architectonic element based on the history and on the identification of the changings occurred in the buildings in a synchronic way, that is, changings occurred in a same period of time, and diachronic, in which changings occurred in different periods of time, itâs presented data related to the typological readings and its application on the Historical Downtown of SÃo LuÃs City, in particular about the federal land registered area, included by UNESCO on the listing of the World Heritage. The typological features of SÃo LuÃs Cityâs collection heritage, its origins, formation and the main elements of composition were established from information and facts collected through technical visits in loco and physical and photographic undertakings from examples of associated catalogings, completed by bibliographic research referring to history and the architectonic characteristics of the cataloged archives of patrimonial value of the city. Information was registered about the implementation of lot catalogings, typology and covering materials, answering tables, uses, dimensions of tested principles of the lots and styled characteristics of the faÃades in a set that represents 6,45% of the preserved federal archives, composed of a total of 978 buildings. The analysis of the selected archives indicated that a typical basing of the urban residential architecture of SÃo LuÃs City is âdoor-and-windowâ style from which resulted in a synchronized form, the typical families that locally came to be called âhalf-housing, expanded half-housing and full-housingâ altered by juxtaposition, addition or verticalization of base-type for 13 more types that relate the number of pavements and the use as an unfolding of âdoor-and-windowâ styled housing. The analysis also revealed that the aesthetic characteristics of the faÃades transform themselves in a diachronic form maintaining the developed typology from the âdoor-and-windowâ styled housing. The application of the muratorian methodology reveals, thus, through the process of typology analysis, the identification and participation of the âdoor-and-windowâ styled housing base type and its variations in a set of elements that compose the formation of architectural archives in the composition of values that guarantee the authenticity of the preserved assets. Such fact indicates the necessity of profound knowledge of the basic typology as well as the appreciation of its preservation to maintain these authentic values in the examples of the urban residential architecture, since the criteria of the authentic work is one of the conceptual elements of foundation in the classification of the studied set as World Cultural Heritage
