RESUMO
In Salvador there are at least four ways to represent the direct object of the second person: i) the use of te; ii) the use of lhe iii) the use of você and iv) the strategy with a null object. In this work, basing on the Variacionist Sociolinguistic theoretical-methodological model, it looks investigate the conditioning of linguistic, pragmatic-discursive and social factors on the option of the speaker by an available form. For that, the corpus used in the study consists of a sample of 36 informers, distributed by the two sexes in three age groups: first age group (25-35 years), second age group (45-55 years), third age group (65-75 years), considering their level of formal education: elementary education and superior education. The analysis of the data showed an equilibrated number of the forms te and lhe in the application of the speaker, evidencing that in the capital of Bahia the clitic lhe, contrary to the prescribed by the grammatical tradition, alternates between the dative and accusative forms. Of the results obtained in the quantitative analyses, realized with the support of the package of the statistical program VARBRUL, the age group was an important factor to explain the variation te and lhe, pointing to the fact that in Salvador exists a change in progress towards the form te. In the analyze for the sex variable it is possible to verify the change in focus as being leaded by the women. The analysis of the data also revealed that in contexts of bigger monitoring of the speaking, the preference of the speaker is to use the lhe form, while the clitic te, that translates more informalities, is less preferable in monitoring contexts. The variable related to the education level was not relevant to both variants, concluding that there is no stigmatization of the forms in this speech community.
