PrevalÃncia de GrÃnulos de Fordyce, LÃquen Plano oral e Leucoplasia, em grupo de pacientes do ServiÃo de Estomatologia da UFPE, entre os anos de 1999 a 2003

RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to map the changes in oral cavity related to oral health. Three major themes were studied. The first topic aimed at determining the prevalence of Fordyce spots in a group of individuals from Recife. Secondly, the prevalence of two of the most important potentially malignant lesions, oral lichen planus and the leukoplakia were evaluated. A retrospective study including patients from the oral medicine unit, of Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, who attended the clinic between January 1999 to December 2003 was undertaken. The variants studied were gender, age range and skin color. The total sample comprised 2281 patients â (651 males and 1630 females) age varying from 1 to 90 years old. The occurrence of Fordyce spots was found in 69 (3%) of the individuals evaluated. Males were more commonly affected than females 4.3 versus 2,5%, (P>0,05). Also the prevalence was null at the age range from 1 to 10 and higher from 30 to 64 years old; it varied from 2,3% among the leukoedema to 3,5% among the faioderma and melanoderma, (P>0,05). Of 2281 patients evaluated, the presence of lichen planus was observed in five female individuals and one in a male. One occurred in a patient between 20 to 29 years old, and the others five among patients from 30 to 64 years old. The presence of leukoplakia was observed in 19 individuals (0,8%), 13 females and 6 males. However itÂs important to emphasize that there wasnÂt significant statistical difference between genders. It was also possible to observe, that the prevalence of leukoplakia increased according to the age range, showing insignificant difference between the last two age range (30 to 64 and 65 to 90) when confronted with each one of the other age groups
