RESUMO

The first part of the present work involves the development of a method of extraction of radionuclides produced metallophthalocyanines by neutron activation. The second part involves the labelling of metallophthalocyanines by transfer reactions and/or by substitution reactions. . Thephthalocyanines of copper and cobalt, CuPc and CoPc were irradiated with thermal neutrons to study the possibilities of obtaining high specific activity radiometal nuclides by means of the Szilard Chalmers reaction. Samples of the b-metallophthalocyanines were submitted to extraction by (1) aqueous acid solution and (2) mixtures consisting of an aqueous acid solution and an organic solvent. To improve the extraction yields the metallophthalocyanine were ground in the presence of added materiaIs, in the presence, or absence, of the crystallizing solvent, toluene. Improved yields were obtained in this way, to approximately 50% for radiocopper and 74% for radiocobalt. In order to evaluate the possibility of labelling phthalocyanines by means of transfer reactions, procedures based on the results of Kalliat and Nath, were used as follow: samples which were pretreated in different ways, were doped with Co-60, heated and subjected to aqueous extraction or precipitation from H2S04 solution. The results of this procedure were very low, with average extractic of 2.5 %. The possibility of labelling metallophthalocyanines with high specific activity radiometal nuclides was stablished by rneans of substitution reactions envolving the metal atoms of a labile parent metallophthalocyanines by radiometal atoms which produce a less labil rnetallophthalocyanines. The yields obtained showed that this substitution reaction goes to completion; however the transfer reaction which was reported by Kalliat and Nath to reach 33%, reache a maximurn of only 3 .4% in the present work.
