RESUMO

This work has tried to re-examine, by means of a transforming action, the teaching of the Portuguese language in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th years of the first grade, through an action research which involved this researcher and five teachers of a public school in Ponta Grossa, PR. This research was developed through meetings whose objective was to create conditions for discussions and reflections that gave the teachers the chance to understand the teaching of the Portuguese language as an opportunity for sharing experiences, for verbal interaction and interlocution. The analysis of what was said during these meetngs revealed a transforming process of the teacher s practice. In this sense, our attention was directed at the pedagogical question, that is, to how the teachers started to organise their work in the c1assroom with the goal of giving the students the opportunity of using a lively, dynamic, and meaningful language
