RESUMO

This thesis is about the relevance of research activity in the training of high school teachers specially Geography teachers. It is part of the research line of the Post graduation program of the Faculdade de Educação, Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) called Curriculum and New Technologies.Its theoretical framework includes authors who discuss teaching, research, curriculum and and contemporaneity. The main argurment of this investigation was the analysis of the historically created dichotomy between teaching and research, in the curricula of the Teacher s College. Thus, the aim was to investigate this dichotomy, focusing on the training of resarch teachers. This research locus was the Teacher s College in Geography at the Universidade do Estado da Bahia (UNEB) in the town of Santo Antonio de Jesus. What could be seen is that the curriculum of the Teacher s College still does not have the necessary conditions for the training of such teachers because what prevails is the teaching of research and not the teaching through research. One hopes research becomes structural in the education of system, beyond its instrumental function, encompassing not only techniques but also the critical and creative impulse in contemporary education.
