RESUMO
The present paper deals with the use of the computer and the Internet in the pedagogical practice of teachers who have mentally disabled students. The research took place in a Special Education School of Curitiba between June 2006 and January 2007. Verifying the teachers pedagogical practices in terms of the use of the computer and the Internet has been our main goal in this research. Which means to ask some questions such as: how important is the use of computer and Internet for the teachers pedagogical practices? Are such technological resources used as often as other resources? The research purpose has been to look into such pedagogical practices in a special education school for mentally disabled students where the new technology is employed, particularly the computer and the Internet, and to infer the teachers performance in face of this technology in their pedagogical practices towards the mentally disabled. It was done under a qualitative exploiting nature and based on the contents analysis through what the teachers themselves have reported about their pedagogical practices. The institution teachers profile was outlined from the quantitative collected data as a means to get to know about their personal, family and working background in terms of Special Education, as well as their graduation studies report. Based on such features we have inferred and drawn reflections about their pedagogical practices, among the several technological devices available in the institution. And then based on the research outcomes we have advised them about the mere utilization of the computer and the Internet within pedagogical practice - when done just in way to instruct and laid upon a merely technical rationale - being unable to bring in meaningful implications for the learning. Merely having the equipment and the workshops in the school is not at all a guarantee of a purposeful use of them in fostering learning, in such a way that the teaching would lead to autonomy acquiring and inclusion. Therefore we understand that both the computer and the Internet can perform a partner role in the education of the special students provided the teachers training focus on using them beyond an instructional perspective.
