RESUMO

This work shows the results of an experimental investigation carried out to evaluate the influence of a non-Newtonian medium and pipe inclination on the rise velocity of elongated bubbles. The experimental apparatus consists of a 9.44 m long transparent pipe with 77.2 mm inside diameter that can be set at any inclination from vertical to horizontal. It contains ball valves that allows measurements of volumetric void fractions, and electrical conductivity probes for length and velocity determination of elongated bubbles. For several pipe inclinations, 622 tests were run using air, as the gas phase, and Xanthum Gum solution, as the drilling fluid with non-Newtonian behavior. Additional 619 tests were run for air-water mixture. The experimental results were compared with previous works.
