RESUMO

In his commentary on distinction 33 in the Third Book of Lombard's Sentences, John Duns Scotus develops his doctrine concerning the subject of the moral virtues, according to which the will is the only possible seat of the virtues. This paper aims to show that this determination, on the one hand, results from the prior postulation of the will as the only moral power of man and, on the other, involves a serious weakening of the role and importance of virtue in moral perfection.
