RESUMO

ABSTRACT This paper is a comprehensive review of the text “The Zoophonie: Thesis on the Possibility of Describing the Sounds and Articulations of the Voice of Animals”, written in 1829 in Brazil by the Frenchman Hercules Florence. The Zoophonie, as proposed by Florence, is a Science from the new world within the framework of the colonial context of the expeditions of the 19th century. The activities of Florence as an inventor of devices, a visual artist and a proponent of scientific fields show that the interactions between these fields a have existed for a long time. The writing of this paper comprehended the translation of the original Zoophonie document into Spanish and English (translation of Sandra Mesa and Andrés Burbano, attached to this paper).
