RESUMO
With the objetive of improving the adaptation of total prostheses and like this the pattem of the patients life, several authors have been dedicating the life in researches that seek to improve or at least to minimize this problem. Several factors can contribute to the desadaptation to bases of prostheses, among them are the thickness, the uncontrolled increase of polimerization temperature, and even the polimerization method. The objective of this work was verify the alteration in the adaptation to bases of prostheses with some of these variants like thickness, the polimerization method is one more subject that became controversial in the literature, and the alteration caused by the presence of the teeth. Sixty four prostheses were made, starting from a melted model in alloy of Copper and Aluminum simulating a maxilla and divided in 8 groups with 8 samples in each group, 4 groups were polimerized in baths of water to 74°C / 9 hs and 4 by microwaves energy at 500W / 3 mino ln these 4 groups, 2 had uniform 1 mm thickness and 2 with 2 mm thickness and still inside these groups 2 with the presence of teeth and 2 with the absence of teeth. The resin utilized was Lucitone 550, after the polimerization the prostheses received the fmishing and they were submitted to a test where an impression material was interposed between the base and the metal model and later the heavy one. After the result, the authors conc1uded the following: 1) Signim.cant difference existed in the desadaptation averages between the two thickness, and that the one which caused smaller desadaptation was to of 2 mm. 2) there was no significant statisticaly difference among the desadaptation averages with or without teeth and neither between the two polimerization criteria. 3) the group that presented smaller desadaptation was the prostheses with 2 mm and with the presence of teeth, and the one that presented larger desadaptation was the prostheses with 1 mm and with the presence of teeth
