RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the impact of oral conditions on preschool childrens quality of life registered in the Municipal Schools of Infantile Education (EMEIs) in Bauru, State of São Paulo, as well as check the socioeconomic profile of households and nutritional status. The sample consisted of 229 preschool children between 3 and 5 years old where was adopted the dmft index for assessment of dental caries and body mass index to assess the nutritional status of children in accordance with the standards recommended by the World Health Organization . Questionnaires were used for evaluation of influence of oral health on quality of life (ECOHIS) and socioeconomic profile of parents or guardians of their preschoolers. Statistical analysis was performed descriptively by relative and absolute frequencies and tests of Spearman correlation, Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney (p <0.05). Was found a dmft of 1.65 (2.87) and a Sic Index 4.88 (3.20), indicating the polarization of dental caries in the studied group. It was found that 66.81% of the children were well-nourished and was verified low influence of oral health on quality of life of children examined. With respect to socioeconomic classification 66.38% of families were in the lower middle class. Statistically significant relationship was found betwen the dmft and components and influence of oral health on quality of life and positive and inverse correlation between the dmft and socioeconomic conditions. There was little influence of oral health on quality of life of assessed children and significant relationship with these socioeconomic conditions. These results can guide new practices aiming the reduction health inequalities in the distribution of dental caries in the population
