RESUMO

The world population is getting old each day and because of that our society is changing. The life expectation is growing as people ages to 80, 90 100 years or more. With this numbers it is necessary to associate the life quality. The art as a therapy allows the human being to send their feelings and emotions free, taking for granted at that moment the join between art and itself, through the addition of affective quality of interpersonal relations, more communication, the improve of self image and the finding of creative potentials. The result is a better routine. Summing up, the elderly work in art area can improve self-image and bring back the best life quality in philosophic, psychological and social areas. This project aims to investigate the practical handmade works and how it can influence the elder self âimage. The research was divided into four steps: the first step literature reviews according to the subject, the subject related aspects approach as population oldness and its biological aspects, psychological end social; the second step describes art as a therapeutic resource, creativity, creation process, self-image, self-concept, self-esteem, feeling end emotions; the third step was field research where were done semi- structured interviews, centered on elder questions and self-image; the fourth step analyzed and collected data discussion. The collected data was analyzed and they tried to relate the report to the observed data. Based on the pioneer character of the subject it is considered that the results can really contribute to the academic area, as a base for the new studies related to the subject which tries to show the therapy art that looks for the elder self-image, as for elder work to whom it was given new perspective for philosophic, emotional and social losses.
