RESUMO

This investigation was carried out by means of descriptive researches based on specific field-related literature, history surveys and reports obtained from speech therapists as well as school representatives, that is, supervisors, and the interrelation between Speech Therapy and Schools was investigated. The city of Uberaba-MG in Brazil, where this research was carried out, was particularized because we believe that such region influenced the looked-for relationships once methodological subsidies from Urban Anthropology were used. Data obtained showed that the relationship between speech therapists and the schools studied was precarious, which proved that speech therapists need to get to know the reality in this city’s schools since this lack of relationship is attributed to a disinterest from these schools. However, some indications strongly show that these relationships can be constituted in order to allow students’ integral development, and place speech therapists’ specialized knowledge at its disposal. We concluded that the need to change the situation in Uberaba shows that referrals should not be the main reflection point, but should give priority to a closer relationship between Speech Therapy and Schools. There should be investments in speech therapists’ academic formation so that this interrelation could be more participative. Such situation may lead to the way which will allow the development of a more efficient connection between Speech Therapy and Schools
