RESUMO

In the Parque EcolÃgico JoÃo Vasconcelos Sobrinho the floristic survey of pteridophytes occurring in the site was conducted considering ecological aspects and studying the microhabitats and constancy index of species collected between the years of 2001 and 2002, relating these knowledge to the preservation of pteridophytes in the area. the Parque EcolÃgico JoÃo Vasconcelos Sobrinho, also known as Brejo dos Cavalos, of the Municipality of Caruaru, Pernambuco state, Brazil is characteristically an area of upland forest, and is considered, along with other forest remnants, as true biological refuges for innumerous pteridophyte species. In one year six bimonthly excursions took place; analysis of pteridophyte diversity range in the microhabitats and species constancy were conducted; also, a research about the species deposited in all of Pernambucoâs herbaria was done. A total of 76 species of pteridophytes were surveyed, distributed in 32 genera and 15 families. The majority are accidental, all in wide range microhabitats; microhabitats which are species restricted are most common and are colonized mostly by constant species only. The Pteridaceae family occurs as the most representative, there is also the predominance of herbaceous, hemicryptophytous, terrestrial, ciophylous species and those of the forest interior. A low index of epiphytic species was observed, a high diversity of the genus Adiantum L. and a significant number of herbarium only surveyed species. The sum of these data reflect the fragility in which the studied area is found, as a biological refuge to the pteridophyte and attests the secondary character of the forests of the Parque EcolÃgico JoÃo Vasconcelos Sobrinho and consequently the richer pteridophyte flora of previous times
