RESUMO

During the last 30 years, plastics have played an important role in the lifestyle of the society and many benefits in the quality of life can be attributed to then. But with the environmental issue associated with its application, it becomes priority for the society to study the recycle of those materials. In this work, the objective was to process several times a polymer very used as low density polyethylene and to observe its behavior after several reprocess and to verify if the polymer reaches the necessaries specifications for its reuse. Low density polyethylene was processed five times using an extrusion Plastometer. Testes were carried out after each reprocess to evaluate theological and mechanical properties. Melt flow index and density were determined using an extrusion Plastometer, and Differential Scanning Calorimetry determined the crystallization and melting temperature. Infrared Spectroscopy was used to evaluate the polymer degradation and the mechanical properties were evaluated by tensile test. The results obtained in this work indicated that after five reprocess, some variations in the theological and mechanical properties can be observed in low density polyethylene as variations in melt flow index, decrease in elongation at failure and degradation. It is possible to use the low density polyethylene as a recycled material specially in the manufacturing industries, contributing to reduce the residual material and environmental issue
