RESUMO
The present work has the purpose of study the religious dimensions of flying saucers and extraterrestrials belief in Brazil. We seek to analyse some contactees groups, formed by men and women that allegedly receive messages from ETs, stressing who are they, what they think and what they say about the meaning of life, the origin of the world and the future of humankind. First, we show how the world became familiar with ideas about others worlds inhabitants that visit Earth in modern spaceships. After, we show some elements that originate the contactees groups in United States and Brazil, followed by examples in both contexts. Then, we examine the network created by sympathizers and readers on contactee Jan Val Ellam, in São Paulo, specially its organization, communication tools and religious content of the messagens received by him. Finally, we discuss possible factors that could explain the success of some groups, and how they deal with science and religion
