RESUMO

The objective of this work was to obtain and compare the parameters of the railway friction brakes, both shoe-wheel and pad-disk types, verifying the technical possibility of the pad-disc system to be used in replacement to the conventional shoe-wheel system for freight vehicles, maintaining the safe conditions to components integrity. The conditions were explored under the same inertial loading, speeds and braking forces specified in the AAR-M-926-92 standard for high friction coefficient brake shoes evaluation, which satisfy the requirements for the current railroad operation. The equivalent loading for the pad-disc type brake system was calculated, aiming the same braking conditions. Plots of braking parameters were obtained from the Dynamometric Bench of DPM/FEM for each one of these kinds of brakes, aiming to get the same stop distance from the same initial velocities for both brake systems. The temperature raising was also simulated analytical1y and numerical1y, using the finite elements method (Ansys 6,0 program), for stops tests in disk and wheel. Several friction materials from different origins were tested. The results show that the pad-disk system can be used to replace safely the shoe-wheel actual system for freight car transportation
