RESUMO

This text analyses the R&D experience of the COPERSUCAR (Alcohol and Sugar Cane São Paulo State Producers Cooperative). The factors that have induced "in house" research are discussed, on the context of the prevalescent production relations of the sugar cane agro-industry. The distinct research programs developed by the CTC (COPERSUCAR Technology Center) since 1969 are also analysed, with special emphasis on the vegetable improvement, industrial process and agricultural machinery areas. As a last point, it is analysed the CTC contribution to the technological capacitation of the brazilian sugar-alcohol productive sector
