RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to analyze the short and median term of the clinical results of the use of the pre molded mamona polymer as an alternative method of bone defect reconstruction after resection of benign aggressive and malignant bone tumors. Twenty patients were prospectively evaluated from January 2000 through May 2002. For this purpose, the clinical evaluation method, proposed by Mankin, was taken into consideration. The mamona polymer has as its main advantages, its availability and low cost, specially for bing of national origin, no disease transmission risks, biocompatible and osteointegratable. Comparing the results of its application with other traditional methods of substitution, there were no significant statistical differences. From the results the following suggestion can be drawn: this method is an alternative to the traditional ones, not only for the northeast of Brazil. For a better judgment of its clinical viability, a longer follow up with an increased number of patients is recommended
