RESUMO

The market globalization and the pursuit for methodologies and management ways that are capable of ensuring higher competitiveness on a worldwide basis demand that Organizations establish and implement alternatives ever more innovative. Outsourcing, as a management practice, comes to fill a need of specialization within Organizations. Originally created to serve to activities deemed as end-purpose, outsourcing evolved and is now being applied to activities always more relevant within organizational processes. This Masters essay had the aim of assessing, through a SWOT matrix, the strategies of engineering services outsourcing, under the point of view of the company who had outsourced such services. The research has been developed at the Vega do Sul company, which belongs to the ARCELOR group of steel mills, headquartered in Europe. Inaugurated in 2003, Vega do Sul has an innovative management model, which was conceived with similarities to condominiums, and a large portion of activities has been outsourced, allowing the companys staff to concentrate in its core business. The performed research has allowed identifying the strengths and weaknesses, risks and opportunities that have impacted or that may impact the outsourcing done at Vega do Suls central Laboratory. The case-study used of an exploratory qualitative research method. The data gathering has been carried out through unstructured interviews and analysis and interpretation of data were performed on a descriptive manner, using interpretation and triangulation.
