RESUMO

This research had the purpose to evaluate the cardiorespiratory adaptations due to physical training, specially in that concerns the modifications in vagos ympathetic control of the heart. It included both a longitudinal and cross-sectional study. The longitudinal study, was conducted in 8 healthy male volunteers, mean age 53 years, that were submitted to an aerobic physical training (APT) program. This training was conduced with walking and jogging on athletic track, with intensity ranging from 70 to 85% of peak heart rate (HR), mean duration of 35 minutes and 3 sessions weekly. The volunteers were evaluated before and in 3rd and 10th months from the beginning of the training program. The functional tests used the dynarnic exercise (cycle ergometer) in discontinuous protocol (DP) and continuous protocol (CP). The variables studied were the HR and blood pressure (BP) during rest and exercise; the first was obtained by manual count of "R-R" intervals in the ECG recording. This kind of study allowed us to conclude that the APT caused rest bradycardia, which was intensified progressively with the duration of training (p <0,05). The increments of HR in 0-10 seconds interval (vago-dependent) and in 1-4 minutes interval (sympathetic dependent) showed small changes after APT periods. Only in 10th month the APT caused significative alterations in 1-4 minutes increments of HR , a stressing the smaller sympathetic participation as adaptative response to APT. It must be emphasized that the global increment in HR in the 0-4 minutes, almost did not modify with the APT. The absolute HR response during the DP in all studied volunteers showed an improvement in performance distinct training stages. The data in ep from longitudinal study revealed, in the course of APT, a significant improvement of the peak aerobic capacity, relatively to peak HR values (p <0,05). The cross-sectional study had the purpose to compare the rest and exercise HR response, of two groups of volunteers: a control sedentary group (n=7) and the group submitted to a 10 months APT program (n=8); the two groups, were comparable as to age and anthropometric characteristics. ...
