RESUMO

Menopause is a special period in a woman?s life when almost all them experience progressive modification in their physical and psychological sates. Among various symptoms, there are those related to the cardiorespiratory system like: intolerance to exertion, skin hyperemia and heart palpitation. The objective of this research, that included a longitudinal and cross-sectional study, was to evaluate the cardiorespiratory adaptations due to physical training, particularly related to vago-sympathetic control of the heart. The longitudinal study was undertaken in nine healthy women (mean age 53 years), that were in menopause, characterized by clinical and laboratory examinations. All of them were studied before and after a period of aerobic physical training (APT) program. The training was done with walking and jogging on athetic track, with intensity ranging from at 70 to 85% of HR peak, mean duration of 40 minutes/sessions, and 3 sessions weekly, for a period of 6 months. The functional tests used the dynamic exercise (in cycle ergometer) in discontinuous protocol (DP) and continuous protocol (CP). The variables studied were the HR and blood pressure (BP) during rest and exercise, the HR values was obtained by manual count of ?R-R? intervals in the ECG recording. This study allowed us to conclude that the APT caused rest bradycardia, after 6 months of training (p(0,05)...
