RESUMO

This study aimed to identify the relationship between the Administrative Management and the Educational Management in Catholic Schools and their impact on institutional performance. The perceptions of the administrative, pedagogical and teaching bodies were considered in the six catholic schools that where inquired on the Federal District of Brasilia. The methodological option was for the qualitative and exploring inquiry that was developed by exploring semi-structured interviews and by the application of questions on people from the administrative, pedagogical and teaching areas. The revision of the literature considered studies pertaining to the subject, particularly a historical review of the evolution of Catholic Education and its presence in Brazil since the early days of Colonization, as a form of backing up the processes of analysis that express values and beliefs current demonstrated on educative actions taken by the Catholic Schools inquired. The focus of this inquiry was centered on educational management, emphasizing the relationship between the administration and the educational management: its impact on the results and their challenges to the institutionals viability and development. It was found that the schools surveyed show signs of an organizational culture without the expertise needed to manage and properly use all the resources that they are endowed. A challenge that was met resides on the difficulty to articulate the exigencies of the educational market, the cultural and educational changes of today, the new paradigms in management and the new knowledge and educative practices, without compromising strongly the identity of the Catholic School. The research reveals important aspects necessary to the professional education and to improve administrative and educational management, and their inter-relationship, such as greater focus on the relationship between the educational team, the internal communication, the strategic planning, and the systematic academic and institutional assessments. The prospect of advances in management should be given according to greater and ever increasing effectiveness in academic, human and Christian excellence, which is typical of the Catholic School.
