RESUMO

The objective of this paper was to evaluate if the established goals developed for the future by the students of the Pedagogy Course, from a public university of the north of Paraná, influenced the valorization and the involvement in the activities demanded in the course and the kind of motivation adopted at the present time. 347 students from all the four grades of the mentioned course participated in the study. The data were collected through interview and self-report questionnaire, containing 62 questions, in a scale similar to Likert. The study had theoretical foundation in the social-cognitive approaches of the human motivation, specifically in the Theory of the Self-determination and in the Future Time Perspective. Among the main results of the research, we can highlight the autonomous motivation prevalence among the students. Besides, these students established goals to be reached in the future and they notice the current academic activities as tools in order to reach those future goals, that is, these students have a Future Time Perspective and a tool based perception. A positive relationship between the tool based perception and the Future Time Perspective with the motivation has been discovered, specifically, with the most autonomous regulation types (identified regulation and intrinsic motivation). The Future Time Perspective was a predictive factor of the tools, of the extrinsic motivation for identified regulation and of the intrinsic motivation. The results have also showed that most students, in all grades, intend to keep the course until it is over. The research has brought important contributions, once the pointed results demonstrate several aspects that can be involved in the academic motivation, enlarging the understanding related to the motivational orientations of university students.
