RESUMO
This research addresses the use and understanding of images in childrenâs textbooks, focusing on vocabulary exercises in Portuguese grammar books for early learners. It deals with studies related to the field of early childhood education, highlighting the use of images in the context of textbooks. It also presents an analytical study of some selected illustrations of certain books and discusses the production of illustrations through interviews with some illustrators. Finally, it proposes guidelines for the appropriate use of images in this kind of educational artifact. It concludes by reflecting on how information design may assist and contribute to minimizing the problems that affect the understanding of images in education. It also emphasizes the need to include the designer during the development and production of textbooks
