1. Trichomoniasis is a non-viral sexually transmitted disease most common in the world. The current treatment of this disease includes the use of several drugs, including herbal remedies formulated with Mentha crispa have also been used as protozoan The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of herbal medicine containing Mentha crispa in patients with vaginal trichomoniasis. The study was a randomized clinical trial, parallel and opened. It included 60 female volunteers, 35 from Fortaleza - Ceara and 25 from Sinop - Mato Grosso, who had stool examination of vaginal discharge positive for trichomoniasis. Patients were randomly distributed in two treatment groups, the Mentha crispa group and the Secnidazole group. Both groups were composed of 30 volunteers, in which, respectively, 2 tablets of 12 mg of herbal Giamebil and 2 tablets 1000mg Secnidal  were orally administered in single dose. The clinical trial consisted of three steps: pretreatment, treatment and post-treatment. To significance level of 5%, no difference was found between the groups (P = 0.6120), because the proportion of volunteers with no T.vaginalis in the Secnidazole group was 96.67% and the proportion found in the Mentha crispa group was 90.00%. Secondary endpoints for the evaluation of the effectiveness of Mentha crispa in the treatment of trichomoniasis were the improvement of clinical complaints: vaginal discharge, unpleasant odor, genital burning, dysuria, dyspareunia, pelvic pain and itching. It has not been demonstrated statistically significant difference (P = 0 , 4583) between the treatments in the proportion of patients who reported no such complaints. The drugs were considered well tolerated, as no voluntary needed additional pharmacological intervention in order to control or eradicate such discomfort. Therefore, adverse events were assessed as being mild, manifesting itself only once and having spontaneous remission. However, adverse effects were significantly higher (P = 0.0006) in the Secnidazole group (66.67%) than those found in the Mentha crispa group (20.00%). Adverse events reported by volunteers Secnidazole group were nausea (16.67%), the unpleasant odor in the urine (3.33%) and metallic taste, that was cited by 50% of patients and it showed a statistically significant difference between the treatment groups (P <0.001). The referred events by the volunteers of the Mentha crispa group were: epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting and headache reported by 3.33%, while unpleasant taste was mentioned by 6.67%. No signs of clinical toxicity was observed during treatment. This trial concluded that the herbal medicine containing Mentha crispa showed efficacy and safety when used orally at a dose of 24mg, presenting itself as an alternative therapy safe, effective, accessible and with quality for treatment in patients with trichomoniasis. / Estudo comparativo, randomizado para avaliar a eficÃcia terapÃutica da Mentha crispa e do secnidazol no tratamento da tricomonÃase

This work had as an objective to identify the motivation level of the students who belong to three public grade schools in the city of São Carlos with different socio-economical realities for the chemistry learning. Experimental activities were developed with the main objective of promoting the students interaction with their friends and teachers. During th

4. EvoluÃÃo das polÃticas de hemoterapia no Brasil: o sistema pÃblico de hemoterapia do Cearà / Development of policies in hemotherapy in Brazil: the public system of Cearà hemotherapy
The hemotransfusion is a need which has accompanied the humanity since its origins. Starting from the 15th century, several specialists tried to use the blood trough transfusion, however, only in the 20th century, with the discovery of blood groups and description of the crossed proof, transfusion was recognized as a scientific method. Blood Tranfusion Insti

5. Atividade eletrica dos musculos esternocleidomastoideo e trapezio - fibras superiores em individuos normais e disfonicos
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate bilateral electric activity of muscles sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and superior fibers of trapezius (SFT) in clinicalIy normal and dysphonic subjects during rest and phonation. The electric activity was measured in 20 female subjects, divided into two groups: the Control Group consisting of 10 subjects aged betw

6. Simple motor tics may be preceded by a premotor potential.
Obeso et al reported that simple motor tics in Tourette's syndrome were not associated with premotor potentials, which were present when patients mimicked their tics voluntarily, suggesting that spontaneous tics were not generated in the same manner as voluntary movements. Five patients with simple motor tics were studied using a similar paradigm. Premotor p

7. Neuromyotonia in hereditary motor neuropathy.
Two siblings with a distal motor neuropathy experienced cramping and difficulty in relaxing their muscles after voluntary contraction. Electromyographic recordings at rest revealed repetitive high voltage spontaneous electrical discharges that were accentuated after voluntary contraction and during ischaemia. Regional neuromuscular blockage with curare indic

8. Akinesia in Parkinsonism. Relation between spontaneous movement (other than tremor) and voluntary movements made on command
In eleven patients with Parkinsonism there was a strong inverse relationship between the frequency of spontaneous activity of the arms and the degree of fatiguing of repetitive finger movements made upon command. The prevalence of spontaneous arm movement was related inversely (but more weakly) to the time taken to complete a pegboard test or to move clothes

9. Pathological torsional eye deviation during voluntary saccades: a violation of Listing's law.
BACKGROUND: Under normal conditions, there are no torsional eye movements during voluntary saccades when the head is stationary (Listing's law). METHODS AND RESULTS: Using dual search coils for three dimensional eye movement recordings, a patient is reported who had direction specific rapid deviations of torsional eye position (up to 10.5 degrees) during vol

10. Correlation between tremor, voluntary contraction, and firing pattern of motor units in Parkinson's disease
Patients with tremor of Parkinsonism show three characteristics of motor unit activity: rhythmic spontaneous resting discharge, abnormally low firing rates during voluntary contraction, and consistent differences in firing pattern between small and large motor units. Smaller units discharge once per tremor beat at weak contractions but change into bursts of

11. Ocular neuromyotonia.
AIMS/BACKGROUND: Ocular neuromyotonia is characterised by spontaneous spasm of extraocular muscles and has been described in only 14 patients. Three further cases, two with unique features, are described, and the underlying mechanism reviewed in the light of recent experimental evidence implicating extracellular potassium concentration in causing spontaneous

12. Torsional deviations with voluntary saccades caused by a unilateral midbrain lesion
Three dimensional eye rotations were measured using the magnetic search coil technique in a patient with a lesion of the right rostral interstitial nucleus of the medial longitudinal fasciculus (RIMLF) and in four control subjects. Up to 10° contralesional torsional deviations with each voluntary saccade were revealed, which also could be seen during bedsid
