3. Environmental effects of leachate extracts from reclaimed asphalt pavement: determination of metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and acute toxicity to Daphnia magna
RESUMO Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) has a variety of organic and inorganic compounds that can interact with the environment and promote deleterious effects on human health. This study investigated the potential toxicity of RAP through metal determination, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) analysis and acute toxicity tests with Daphnia magna. Leached

4. Phytocomponents, Evaluation of Anticholinesterase Activity and Toxicity of Hydroethanolic Extracts of Parkia platycephala Benth.
This study evaluated the chemical composition, antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities, and the toxicity of hydroethanolic extracts of the Parkia platycephala Benth. Hot extraction with 70% hydroethanolic solution was used to obtain crude extracts of the leaf (LE), bark (BE), flower (FE), and seed (SE). Separation and identification of the compounds we

5. ENHANCED REMOVAL OF PERSISTENT CONTAMINANTS AND TOXICITY REDUCTION THROUGH THE APPLICATION OF A TRIPLE-STAGE FENTON PROCESS TO SANITARY LANDFILL LEACHATES FROM YUCATAN, MEXICO
Sanitary landfill leachate (SLL) is a mixture of highly toxic and recalcitrant pollutants that threatens the water quality of the Yucatán Peninsula karst aquifer, one of the most extensive aquifers on the planet. To reduce the adverse environmental impacts of this wastewater, a triple-stage Fenton process (FP) was applied in an old SLL. Removal efficiencies

6. Cadmium accumulation and toxicity in watercress (Barbarea verna), chicory (Cichorium endivia) and rocket (Eruca sativa) plants
ABSTRACT Some vegetables have the ability to accumulate cadmium (Cd)at levels that are toxic to most other plants. The objective of thisstudy was to evaluate the Cd accumulation and its toxic effects on edible vegetables. Three species were tested: watercress (Barbarea verna); chicory (Cichorium endivia); rocket (Eruca sativa) and four Cd doses (0; 1.5; 3.0;

7. Photo-Fenton-Based Degradation of Methylene Blue Dye Using Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles Doped with Fe3O4/γ-Fe2O3
In this study, we evaluated the catalytic properties of hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles (NPs) doped with Fe3O4/γ-Fe2O3 for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye using a photo-Fenton process at pH 2.5, 7.0, and 9.0. The HA NPs were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry, Raman spect

9. Scanning electron microscopy of panitumumab-induced eyelash and hair alterations - Pili canaliculi
Abstract Panitumumab is a monoclonal antibody against the epidermal growth factor receptor used in metastatic colorectal cancer; in addition to tumor cells, it acts on epidermal keratinocytes and on the outer root sheath and presents skin toxicity in up to 90% of cases. A scanning electron microscope was used to examine the eyelashes and hairs of a 65-year-o

12. Characterization of Commercially Available Turmeric for Use in Pharmaceutical Products and Food Supplements
We addressed some physicochemical and biological differences in commercial turmeric, acquired from both handling pharmacies and stores selling natural products for quality assessment. For this, it was determined the melting point, antioxidant activity by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate (DPPH), antimicrobial activity via the agar disk-diffusion assay,
