2. Structural Differences of the Harderian Gland between Common Pheasants (Phasianus Colchicus Talischensis) and Hybrids of Italian Amber and Common Pheasants
ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to demonstrate the histological and histochemical structure of the Harderian gland in wild and hybrid of wild and domestic birds. The samples were stained with haematoxylin-eosin, methyl green-pyronin Y, periodic acid-Schiff, alcian blue pH 2.5, aldehyde fuchsin and Hale's dialyzed iron staining's. In both species, t

3. Histology, histochemistry and fine structure of the Harderian gland, lacrimal gland and superficial gland of the third eyelid of the European bison, Bison bonasus bonasus (Artiodactyla: Bovidae)
ABSTRACT The macroscopic anatomy and the microscopic and ultrastructural features of the Harderian gland (HG), lacrimal gland (LG) and superficial gland of the third eyelid (SGTE) of the adult European bison are described. In addition, morphometric studies were conducted and were followed by statistical analysis of the results. Tissue sections were stained w

4. Tétano em pequenos ruminantes: estudo retrospectivo dos principais achados clínico-epidemiológicos em 11 casos
A retrospective study of major clinical and epidemiological findings was performed in 11 cases of tetanus observed in eight sheep and three goats from 1998 to 2008. The cases occurred predominantly in animals aging from five days to two years, in winter season, with history of recent wounds or surgical procedures. Muscle rigidity and muscular tremors (72.0%)

6. Corneal squamous cell carcinoma in a dog
Background: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a neoplastic disease of the squamous epithelial cells that has been rarely described in the literature. This neoplasm affects the eyelid, conjunctiva and third eyelid, as well as the cornea. Corneal SCC is a neoplastic lesion characterized by a pink, typically irregular mass protruding from the epithelial surface

7. Comparative analysis of the influence of perichondrium on conjunctival epithelialization on cartilage grafts in eyelid reconstruction: experimental study in rabbits / Análise comparativa da influência do pericôndrio no crescimento conjuntival sobre enxertos de cartilagem auricular em reconstrução palpebral: estudo experimental em coelhos
Although the role of cartilage grafts in reconstruction of the posterior eyelid lamella is well established, conjunctival epithelialization on such grafts has yet to be fully proven. The aim of this study is to perform a comparative analysis, after inferior eyelid reconstruction in rabbits with cartilage grafts with and without perichondrium, the presence of

8. Active Surveillance for Scrapie by Third Eyelid Biopsy and Genetic Susceptibility Testing of Flocks of Sheep in Wyoming
Control of scrapie, an ovine transmissible spongiform encephalopathy or prion disorder, has been hampered by the lack of conventional antemortem diagnostic tests. Currently, scrapie is diagnosed by postmortem examination of the brain and lymphoid tissues for PrPSc, the protein marker for this group of disorders. For live, asymptomatic sheep, diagnosis using

9. Preclinical Diagnosis of Scrapie by Immunohistochemistry of Third Eyelid Lymphoid Tissue
Ovine scrapie is a member of the transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), a heterogeneous family of fatal neurologic disorders characterized by deposition of an abnormal isoform (prion protein [PrP] PrP-Sc) of a cellular sialoglycoprotein in neural tissue. PrP-Sc is detectable in some lymphoid tissues of infected sheep months or years before develop

10. Lid lengthening by sclera interposition for eyelid retraction in Graves' ophthalmopathy.
The efficacy of scleral grafts for eyelid lengthening in patients with thyroid related upper and/or lower lid retraction was evaluated in 62 consecutive patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy who underwent lid surgery in the last 3.5 years. Seventy-eight upper and 30 lower lids were lengthened by scleral interposition. A good or acceptable result was achieved

11. Plus-minus lid syndrome.
A patient presented with ipsilateral ptosis and contralateral superior eyelid retraction due to a nuclear third nerve syndrome. The CT brain scan revealed a paramedian mesencephalic lesion contiguous with the oculomotor nucleus, sparing the midbrain tectum and the posterior commissure.

12. Simultaneous spontaneous and primary surgical repair of eyelids.
Fifteen patients with suspected malignant lesions of the lower eyelids or inner canthal region, needing large excisions, were managed as day cases with spontaneous repair and simultaneous subtotal primary surgical reconstruction under local anaesthesia. For lesions confined to the lower eyelid, only those patients requiring full-thickness margin-inclusive (F
