Abstract This article explores the moral narratives that the Argentinean upper class mobilizes as criteria of social distinction and the ways in which schools mediate the construction of such discourses. By analyzing sixty-three in-depth interviews and observations of everyday life as well as the examination of secondary documents, the paper discusses the importance of moral character as a sign of distinction.
