1. Cytoembryological evaluation, meiotic behavior and pollen viability of Paspalum notatum tetraploidized plants
Abstract This study evaluated the mode of reproduction, the meiotic behavior and the pollen viability of three tetraploid plants (2n=4x=40) originated from somatic chromosome duplication of Paspalum notatum plants. The plant WKS 3 changed the mode of reproduction after duplication and became apomictic. The plants WKS 63 and WKS 92 confirmed sexual mode of re

2. Genetic evaluation of mesenchymal stem cells by G-banded karyotyping in a Cell Technology Center
OBJECTIVE: To present the initial results of first three years of implementation of a genetic evaluation test for bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in a Cell Technology Center.METHODS: A retrospective study was carried out of 21 candidates for cell therapy. After the isolation of bone marrow mononuclear cells by density gradient, mesenchymal stem ce

4. Clinicopathological features and DNA ploidy analysis of tongue squamous cell carcinoma in young patients : a collaborative international study / Analise das caracteristicas clinico-patologicas e da ploidia do DNA em pacientes jovens com carcinoma espinocelular de lingua : um estudo colaborativo internacional
Oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) predominately affects elderly patients and frequently develops in association with tobacco and alcohol consumption. However, an increasing of this malignant disease has been observed in patients younger than 40 years of age, who are not exposed to the traditional risk factors. Data regarding oral cancer in young patients ar

5. Análises citogenéticas e expressão da telomerase em sarcoma 180
The cancer is a result of genetic instability. There are two theorical lines which try to explain this pathology origin, the conventional genetic theories and the chromosomal theory of cancer. A lot of neoplastic cell characteristics cant be explained by the conventional theories and they are explained by the chromosomal theory. The telomerase plays an impor

6. The Gardner syndrome: increased tetraploidy in cultured skin fibroblast.
Tetraploidy was increased in skin fibroblast cultures grown in the laboratory at the same time under the same conditions and derived from 2 probands with the Gardner syndrome and 9 affected members of one family as compared to that occurring in cultures from 5 relatives by marriage and 10 normals. Tetraploidy was present at the first subculture (2 weeks afte

7. Tetraploidy in a liveborn infant with spina bifida and other anomalies.
Although tetraploidy of human chromosomes (92,XXYY) has been described frequently in abortuses, only one example in a liveborn infant has previously been described. A second malformed infant with a complete tetraploid chromosome complement, who lived for 15 days, is reported. In addition to many of the malformations described in the first case, this infant a

8. Tetraploidy in a liveborn infant.
We report a 3 month old boy with tetraploidy, found in peripheral blood and skin fibroblast cultures, with severely delayed growth and neurodevelopment, and with a cleft lip; these findings have not been described before. This report brings to seven the total number of liveborn infants with a 92,XXYY karyotype.

9. Deregulated Aurora-B induced tetraploidy promotes tumorigenesis
High expression of Aurora-B has been observed in various cancers, and inhibition of this kinase has been shown to halt cellular proliferation. However, the mechanism of effect of Aurora-B on cellular transformation has not been fully explored. Here, we show that overexpression of Aurora-B in murine epithelial cells promotes generation of tetraploids. In sear

10. In vitro studies on adenomatosis of the colon and rectum.
Cell culture studies on adenomatosis of the colon and rectum (ACR) suggested that the clinical phenotype, colonic adenomas which become malignant recognised as a single clinical entity, may not be entirely the result of a single dominant mutation. Of the dermal cultures containing both epithelioid and fibroblastic cells established from six affected subjects

11. The Gardner syndrome: a cell culture study on kindred 109.
In vitro studies on skin cultures established from 49 members from Kindred 109, in whom the Gardner syndrome was first delineated, showed that increased in vitro tetraploidy occurred only in those cultures derived from branches with the full expression of the Gardner gene (colorectal polyps with multiple extracolorectal benign tumours) and not in those deriv
