13. Biotechnological approaches to the treatment of aspermatogenic men
Aspermatogenesis is a severe impairment of spermatogenesis in which germ cells are completely lacking or present in an immature form, which results in sterility in approximately 25% of patients. Because assisted reproduction techniques require mature germ cells, biotechnology is a valuable tool for rescuing fertility while maintaining biological fatherhood.

14. The epidemiology and etiology of azoospermia
The misconception that infertility is typically associated with the female is commonly faced in the management of infertile men. It is uncommon for a patient to present for an infertility evaluation with an abnormal semen analysis report before an extensive female partner workup has been performed. Additionally, a man is usually considered fertile based only

15. EFEITO in vitro DE Paullinia cupana NO METABOLISMO OXIDATIVO DE ESPERMATOZÓIDES HUMANOS EXPOSTOS AO CLORETO DE METILMERCÚRIO / EFFECT OF Paullinia cupana in vitro oxidative metabolism HUMAN SPERM EXPOSED TO CHLORIDE METHYLMERCURY
Investigations suggests that methylmercury (MeHg) toxicitiy is related to oxidative stress promotion caused by lipid peroxidation of cell membranes as well as genotoxicity. The methylmercury (MeHg) exposition causes production of adverse effects as deterioration of semen quality, testicular degeneration, and male reproductive failure. Since human sperm is a

17. Sodium fluoride does not alter sperm production or sperm morphology in rats
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of sodium fluoride (NaF) on the male reproductive system. Adult male rats were exposed to NaF in drinking water for 30 days at three concentrations: 1.54 (control, tap water), 50 and 100 ppm. Body and organ weights, daily sperm production, sperm number and morphology were investigated. No difference wa

18. Determinação da porcentagem de espermatozóides portadores de cromossomos X e Y no sêmen sexado mediante PCR em tempo real / Determination of the proportion of X- and Y- bearing spermatozoa in bovine sexed semen by real time PCR
There are different biotechnologies to apply to increase the animal production nowadays, reproduction techniques are including. The artificial insemination (AI), for example, is a technique very used during many years ago and it is used at extensive production. The aim of this technique is to increase the numbers of pregnancies with just one ejaculation what

19. Avaliação da Proporção Sexual de Embriões Desenvolvidos In Vitro e de Progênie a Campo de Touros Jovens. / Evaluation of the Sex Ratio of Embryos Developed In Vitro and in Field Progeny of Young Sires.
Some of the main problems that affect the in vitro production of embryos is the variation among bulls in relation to fertility and the greater birth of male embryos. Many factors can change the ratio 1:1 between the genders, both in the in vitro production of embryos and in the method of artificial insemination. To try to change this sex ratio in vitro, we s

20. Reproductive ecology and diet of Cnemidophorus ocellifer Spix 1825 (Squamata: Teiidae) in a coastal area from northeastern Brazil / Ecologia reprodutiva e dieta de Cnemidophorus ocellifer Spix 1825 (Squamata: Teiidae) em Ãrea de tabuleiro no nordeste do Brasil
Chapter 1:Reproduction of Cnemidophorus ocellifer was studied based on data collected from September 2009 to August 2010 in a coastal area of the SÃo GonÃalo do Amarante municipality, CearÃ, Brazil. Lizards were captured by manual collection, with the aid of pressure rifle or tourniquet and, after dead, individuals were dissected for sex determination by

In the past few years the worldwide recognition of the relevance of nutrition as a basis for social and economic development has been growing. In developing countries such as Brazil undernutrition is a socioeconomic problem caused by poor nutrition and low income. The birth of children with low birth weight is considered an important public health problem, w

22. Assessment of sperm production and reproductive organs of Wistar rats to long-term exposure of Caesalpinia ferrea

Sex selecting has a huge impact in dairy and beef production. The only way commercially viable to obtain sex selecting nowadays, is a flow citometry sex sorted sperm technique. Currently sex sorted sperm have been used regularly in Artificial Insemination programs. Meanwhile, there are limitations about non return rate in farm conditions, superficially expla

24. The effect of eurycoma longifolia jack on spermatogenesis in estrogen-treated rats
INTRODUCTION: There is little data concerning the ability of Eurycoma longifolia Jack (EL) to reverse the inhibitory effects of estrogen on testosterone production and spermatogenesis. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of EL on testicular histology and sperm count in estrogen-treated male rats. METHODS: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats w
