13. Functionalized Charcoal as a Buffering Matrix of Copper and Zinc Availability
ABSTRACT: High copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) contents in soil can cause phytotoxicity to plants and contaminate surface and groundwater, with negative effects on agriculture and the environment. Functionalized charcoal (OCh) has high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and the ability to adsorb Cu and Zn and control their availability in the soil and water. An adsorp

14. Multinomial Logistic Regression and Random Forest Classifiers in Digital Mapping of Soil Classes in Western Haiti
ABSTRACT Digital soil mapping (DSM) has been increasingly used to provide quick and accurate spatial information to support decision-makers in agricultural and environmental planning programs. In this study, we used a DSM approach to map soils in western Haiti and compare the performance of the Multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR) with Random Forest (RF) to

15. Spatial Variability of Soil Fauna Under Different Land Use and Managements
ABSTRACT Geostatistics allows the evaluation of the distribution pattern of data with high spatial variability in agricultural systems. This study aimed to evaluate the spatial variability of biological diversity indices of soil fauna under different land (agriculture and forest). Samples were collected in seven areas (millet, soybean, corn, eucalyptus, past

16. Hardening and Stability of Plinthic Materials of the Araguaia River Floodplain under Different Drying Treatments
ABSTRACT Plinthite and petroplinthite occur frequently in Brazilian soils, but there is little information on the behavior of these materials. The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of different drying periods on the hardening and stability of plinthic materials of soils in the floodplain of the Araguaia River and the João Leite stream in Goi

17. Microstructural strength of four subtropical soils evaluated by rheometry: properties, difficulties and opportunities
ABSTRACT: The structural strength of soils has been extensively described by physical and mechanical properties evaluated on the mesoscale for different soils and management conditions. However, changes in the organization of the soil matrix at the microstructural level, which can be obtained by rheometry, are still seldom used in soil mechanics. Our aim was

18. POLÍMERO BIODEGRADÁVEL ANTIMICROBIANO ATRAVÉS DA ADITIVAÇÃO COM COMPOSTOS À BASE DE ZINCO
Antimicrobial packaging is a promising type of active packaging, which has an antimicrobial agent incorporated into the polymer matrix, capable to eliminate or inhibit deteriorating and/or pathogenic microorganisms. The zinc compounds are antimicrobial agents commonly used to confer this feature. The objective of this work was to evaluate the antimicrobial a

19. AVALIAÇÃO DA LIBERAÇÃO DE ELEMENTOS TRAÇO EM SOLOS TRATADOS COM XISTO RETORTADO
Soils that had received successive applications of retorted oil shale (ROS) in an experiment under field conditions were used in this study, aiming to evaluate the availability of trace elements. In the batch tests, we observed that toxic elements present in the ROS are not desorbed from the matrix in significant amounts to contaminate soil and groundwater.

20. Impact of HNO3 Solution Treatment of South Brazil Coal Matrices on Their Chemical Composition and Humic Acids Yield
In this study, changes on the chemical composition and on the humic acids yield of coal matrices promoted by 25% HNO3 treatment were investigated, by means of elemental, thermogravimetric analyses, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The "run of mine" (ROM) matrix C-MTR (ROM coal) showed the highest C content (41%), highest C/N ratio (76) and

21. Sampling Position under No-Tillage System Affects the Results of Soil Physical Properties
ABSTRACT Understanding the spatial behavior of soil physical properties under no-tillage system (NT) is required for the adoption and maintenance of a sustainable soil management system. The aims of this study were to quantify soil bulk density (BD), porosity in the soil macropore domain (PORp) and in the soil matrix domain (PORm), air capacity in the soil m

22. Cardanol-based thermoset plastic reinforced by sponge gourd fibers (Luffa cylindrica)
Abstract A growing global trend for maximum use of natural resources through new processes and products has enhanced studies and exploration of renewable natural materials. In this study, cardanol, a component of the cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), was used as a building block for the development of a thermosetting matrix, which was reinforced by raw and mod

23. New and Sensitive Electroquantification of Sulfentrazone in Soil by Differential-Pulse Voltammetry
In this work, a new and sensitive electroanalytical methodology was developed and validated to quantify sulfentrazone in soil samples. Sulfentrazone was initially characterized qualitatively using cyclic voltammetry (CV). Its oxidation occurred by diffusion (mass transport) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) via irreversible transfer of one electron close to

24. Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction with Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry for the Determination of Triazine, Neonicotinoid, Triazole and Imidazolinone Pesticides in Mineral Water Samples
Mineral water is known for its high purity. Because mineral water is produced by the infiltration of water through the soil, there is the possibility of contamination with pesticides. The aim of this study was to develop a simple, rapid and efficient method for the extraction and preconcentration of different classes of pesticides in mineral water samples by
