2. Modelling the Hot Flow Behaviors of AZ80 Alloy by BP-ANN and the Applications in Accuracy Improvement of Computations
Hot compressions of as-cast AZ80 magnesium alloy in a wide temperature range of 523-673 K and strain rate range of 0.01-10 s–1 with a height reduction of 60% were conducted by a Gleeble-1500 thermo-mechanical test simulator. The hot flow behaviors show highly non-linear intrinsic relationships with temperature, strain and strain rate. In order to model the

4. Validation of the Clinical Decisions and Diagnostic Workshops (CD/DW) method for the medicine undergraduate course / Validação do metodo Decisões Clinicas e Oficinas Diagnosticas (DC/OD) para o ensino de graduação em medicina
We aimed to validate a national and original pedagogical model for the medicine undergraduate course. This model is called CD/DW (Clinical Decisions/Diagnostic Workshops) and is based on innovative conceptions. The objectives were: 1) to check the effectiveness of the method, in regard to the cognitive and clinical competences acquisition and 2) to collect o

5. Influence factors on forging die wear of automotive connecting rods / Fatores de influencia no desgaste de matrizes de forjamento a quente de bielas automotivas
A significant part of forgings prices is due to costs from reworks of forging dies because of superficial failures on their surfaces. In quest of a higher competitiveness in terms of prices and production times, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms of die failure to increase its working life, avoiding risk situations and a possible total failure of t

Effects of torsional vibration of engine flywheels to define the automotive clutch system.
The internal combustion engine, clutch, transmission, differential, propeller shaft, half shafts and driven wheels compose the powerline of a vehicle which, due to several reasons of refinement and weight, offer low noise "counter resistance" to engine irregularity. This report is a collection of elements to analyze the effects of the engine revolution irreg

9. On the regeneration of the actin-myosin power stroke in contracting muscle.
The transient behavior of muscle in double-or multiple-step length perturbations [Lombardi, V., Piazzesi, G. & Linari, M. (1992) Nature (London) 355, 638-641] is simulated with a "conventional" cross-bridge model, which has been reported [Eisenberg, E., Hill, T. L. & Chen, Y. (1980) Biophys. J. 29, 195-227] to account for many mechanical, as well as biochemi

10. Twirling Motion of Actin Filaments in Gliding Assays with Nonprocessive Myosin Motors
We present a model study of gliding assays in which actin filaments are moved by nonprocessive myosin motors. We show that even if the power stroke of the motor protein has no lateral component, the filaments will rotate around their axis while moving over the surface. Notably, the handedness of this twirling motion is opposite from that of the actin filamen

11. Extraction of cilium beat parameters by the combined application of photoelectric measurements and computer simulation.
Photoelectric signals were created and used to investigate the features of the signals as a function of the ciliary beat parameters. Moreover, correlation between the simulated and the measured signals permitted measurement of the cilium beat parameters. The simulations of the signals were based on generation of a series of time-frozen top-view frames of an
