1. A new look into the small-scale dispersal of free-living marine nematodes
We tested experimentally the hypothesis that prevailing locomotion/feeding strategies and body morphology may lead to more active dispersal of free-living marine nematodes, besides passive transport. Neutral Red was applied to the sediment inside cores and the red plume formed during the flood tide was divided into near, middle, and distant zones. At 0.5 m a

2. Dinâmica da desembocadura do rio Itanhém, Alcobaça, BA / Morphodynamics at the Itanhaém Inlet, Alcobaça, BA
The morphodynamic processes at inlet systems are related to a variety of forcing conditions that create unique hydrodynamic conditions. The interaction of tidal currents, wave conditions, and river discharge at different levels result in complex dynamic patterns. The present work aims to understand the processes that control the dynamics of the Itanhaém Riv

3. Determination of net sediment transport patterns in Lirquén Harbor, Chile, through grain-size trend analysis: a test of methods
During June 1997, bottom sediment samples were collected at 76 stations on a rectangular grid in a small port (Lirquén Harbor, south-central Chile) facing siltation problems. The spatial changes in grain-size parameters, analyzed by using three different methodologies to infer net sediment transport paths, are compared with the measured water circulation of

4. Áreas fontes dos minerais pesados e sua distribuição sobre a plataforma continental sul-brasileira, uruguaia e norte-argentina
The heavy mineral fraction of sedimentary rocks and sediments can provide important information about provenance in sedimentary basins studies because some minerals or group of minerals can be traced to a source rock or terrain of specific composition. This work is a provenance study based on heavy mineral analyses of samples collected on the Rio Grande do S

5. Distribution, income rate, chemical composition and identification of plastic pellets emissions at Santos Bay, SP, Brazil / Distribuição, taxa de entrada, composição química e identificação de fontes de grânulos plásticos na Enseada de Santos, SP, Brasil
Among the various pollutants that threaten the ocean are plastic pellets, prime resource in the form of 5mm granules that are being dumped in the environment during production, utilization and transport stages. This project aims to understand of the contamination of the beaches of the Santos Bay, coast of the state of São Paulo, as a pilot area to address t

6. EvoluÃÃo da linha de costa a mÃdio e curto prazo associada ao grau de desenvolvimento urbano e aos aspectos geoambientais na planÃcie costeira de Maceià - Alagoas
The position of the coastline of the municipality of MaceiÃ, Alagoas state, north east Brazil, has been affected in the last decade by both natural factors associated to the coastal dynamics and by human factors. This study analyzes the evolution of the coastline in relation to urban development and the environmental question over the medium and short term,

7. Patterns of sediment dispersion coastwise the State of Bahia - Brazil
Using the average directions of the main wave-fronts which approach the coast of Bahia State - coinciding with that of the main wind occurring in the area - and of their periods, we define a wave climate model based on the construction of refraction diagrams. The resulting model of sediment transport was able to reproduce, in a general way, the sediment disp

8. Influence of Temperature Adaptation on Glucose Metabolism in a Psychrotrophic Strain of Cytophaga johnsonae†
Selective enrichment of yellow-orange-pigmented, gram-negative bacteria related to Cytophaga johnsonae from lake sediment was dependent on low temperatures (ca. 5°C). However, this temperature effect was abolished when excessive amounts of dissolved organic carbon (10 mM N-acetylglucosamine) were added. A psychrotrophic freshwater isolate of C. johnsonae wa
