1. Incidence of Cytomegalovirus Antigenemia in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases: a 3-year retrospective study
Abstract Objective: To determine the incidence of positive CMV antigenemia (CMV-Ag) in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRD) and to describe the outcomes of these patients. Methods: From January 2011 to December 2014, a total of 443 patients with AIRD were enrolled in this retrospective analysis. Demographic, clinical and laboratory data, curr

2. Acrokeratosis verruciformis of Hopf - Case report
Abstract: A 54 year-old woman with a 3-year history of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) consulted us because of weight loss, fever and skin eruption. On physical examination, erythematous plaques with a pseudo-vesicular appearance were seen on the back of both shoulders. Histological examination was consistent with rheumatoid neutrophilic dermatosis (RND). After th

4. The role of KIR2DL3/HLA-C*0802 in Brazilian patients with rheumatoid vasculitis
OBJECTIVES: Rheumatoid arthritis is a polygenically controlled systemic autoimmune disease. Rheumatoid vasculitis is an important extra-articular phenotype of rheumatoid arthritis that can result in deep cutaneous ulcers. The objective of this study was to establish a correlation between the frequency of major histocompatibility complex class I/II alleles a

5. Associação do HLA-B*14 e HLA-Cw*08 com a suscetibilidade para vasculite reumatóide (VR) e HLA-DRB5*01 na proteção para VR em pacientes brasileiros / Association of HLA-B*14 and HLA-Cw*08 with susceptibility to rheumatoid vasculitis (RV) and HLA-DRB5*01 with protection against RV in brazilian patients
Our purpose was to evaluate the frequency and clinical association of HLA class I and class II in Brazilian patients with rheumatoid vasculitis (RV). We evaluated 57 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (American College of Rheumatology -ACR, 1987 criteria). Seventeen had RV according to Scott and Bacon s criteria - 1984. Demographic data, time of RA diag

6. Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in rheumatic diseases
The aim of this article is to review rheumatological diseases that are associated with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis or fractures and to perform a critical analysis of the current guidelines and treatment regimens. The electronic database MEDLINE was searched using the date range of July 1986 to June 2009 and the following search terms: osteoporosis, b

7. Abnormal plasma fibrinolysis in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and impaired endothelial fibrinolytic response in those complicated by vasculitis.
OBJECTIVES--(a) To assess plasma fibrinolytic parameters in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and to determine whether there are differences between patients with RA alone and those with RA complicated by vasculitis. (b) To determine if patients with RA respond differently to venous occlusion compared with normal subjects and to assess whether such a r

8. Platelet releasing activity in sera of patients with rheumatoid vasculitis.
Platelet releasing activity was found in sera fractionated by 30% ammonium sulphate in seven of 11 patients with systemic rheumatoid vasculitis, two of 16 patients with cutaneous rheumatoid vasculitis, and three of 18 patients with clinically uncomplicated rheumatoid arthritis. Serial studies in three patients suggest a key role of platelet activation by ser

9. Clinical and serological features of severe vasculitis in rheumatoid arthritis: prognostic implications.
Sixteen patients with classic rheumatoid arthritis (RA) complicated by severe vasculitis were studied and compared with a matched control group of 16 RA patients without vasculitis. Seven of the patients with vasculitis died within 4 to 120 months (median 32 months) after developing vasculitic symptoms. Gangrene of digits and extremities, bowel ulcers or bow

10. Successful valve replacement for aortic incompetence in rheumatoid arthritis with vasculitis.
A patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), vasculitis, and aortic valve incompetence of the histologically nonspecific type is described. Valve replacement was undertaken, and an excellent haemodynamic result was achieved. Both arthritis and vasculitis subsequently remitted. Valve replacement can be successfully performed in RA despite active vasculitis.

11. Relationship between pressure and digital vasculitis in rheumatoid disease.
The sites of 92 rheumatoid nailfold lesions were compared with sites of pressure as indicated by tissue blanching during gripping. A close correspondence between sites of blanching and sites of vasculitis was found, and this is discussed in relation to the possible role of vascular compression and blood stasis in the development of rheumatoid vasculitis.

12. Facial rash with scarring due to granulomatous vasculitis in rheumatoid disease.
A 60-year-old man with destructive rheumatoid disease, multiple nodules, and vasculitis developed a facial rash with ulceration and scarring. Histology showed granulomatous vasculitis. The rash was rapidly controlled with oral corticosteroids. Granulomatous vasculitis has not previously been reported as causing this clinical picture in the absence of concomi
