1. Probe-Fed linearly-polarized electrically-equivalent microstrip antennas on FR4 substrates
This paper describes a simple but efficient procedure for designing electrically-equivalent microstrip antennas on FR4 sub-strates. Radiation patterns, reflection coefficient magnitude ( |Γ| ), mutual coupling and cross-polarization level of probe-fed linearly-polarized antennas are calculated and discussed. Experimental results of |Γ| and radiation patter

2. A design proposal for ultrawide band frequency selective surface
In this paper a three layer FSS is described which provides a ultrawide band (UWB) response. The layers use plain rectangular patches, and rectangular patches with one or two notches which provide multi-band responses; by cascading them an UWB response is obtained covering the band 4.05 - 14.12 GHz, for vertical polarization and the band 5.05 - 15.00 GHz, fo

3. Modelagem geológica por simplóides de Bézier / Geological modeling using Bézier simploids
The exploration and monitoring of a hydrocarbon reservoir demand a very detailed knowledge about the geological structures of the target area. The mathematical and computation representation of this knowledge is a geophysical model. In this thesis, we describe a general system for geophysical modeling based on polynomial finite elements of arbitrary degree.

4. Morphological study of the eggs and nymphs of triatoma dimidiata (Latreille, 1811) observed by light and scanning electron microscopy (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae)
Eggs and nymphs of Triatoma dimidiata were described using both light and scanning electron microscopy. The egg body and operculum have an exochorion formed by irregular juxtaposed polygonal cells; these cells are without sculpture and the majority of them are hexagonal in shape. The five instars of T. dimidiata can be distinguished from each other by charac

7. Mathematical description of curved domains via transfinite interpolation / Descrição matematica de geometrias curvas por interpolação transfinita
In this work a methodology is developed for mathematical representation of curved domains, applicable to any type of finite element geometry. This methodology is a generalization of the mathematical model of a geometric representation presented in 1967 by Steven Anson Coons, called "Bilinearly Blended Coons Patches", which patch a rectangular surface in four

8. Análise teórica e experimental de superfícies seletivas de freqüência e suas aplicações em antenas planares
This work presents a theoretical and numerical analysis of structures using frequency selective surfaces applied on patch antennas. The FDTD method is used to determine the time domain reflected fields. Applications of frequency selective surfaces and patch antennas cover a wide area of telecommunications, especially mobile communications, filters and WB ant

9. Aplicação do método LTT às estruturas retangulares e triangulares em multicamadas e empilhadas em substratos PBG para comunicações móveis
Recently the planar antennas have been studied due to their characteristics as well as the advantages that they offers when compared with another types of antennas. In the mobile communications area, the need for this kind of antennas have became each time bigger due to the intense increase of the mobile communications that needs of antennas which operate in

10. Walsby's square bacterium: fine structure of an orthogonal procaryote.
The "square" bacterium, first described by Walsby from brine collected at the Red Sea shore [A. E. Walsby, Nature (London) 283:69-71, 1980] was examined by electron microscopy. The cells appeared as flat rectangular boxes in scanning electron micrographs. In sections and freeze-fracture preparation, the edges looked more rounded. The thickness apparently rem

11. Mechanisms of cardiac cell excitation with premature monophasic and biphasic field stimuli: a model study.
The mechanisms by which extracellular electric field stimuli induce the (re)excitation of cardiac cells in various stages of refractoriness are still not well understood. We modeled the interactions between an isolated cardiac cell and imposed extracellular electric fields to determine the mechanisms by which relatively low-strength uniform monophasic and bi

12. The role of divalent cations in the N-methyl-D-aspartate responses of mouse central neurones in culture.
1. Single-channel currents activated by N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) agonists were analysed in the presence of various extracellular concentrations of divalent cations in outside-out patches from mouse neurones in primary culture. 2. In nominally Mg2+-free solutions the opening and closing of the channels leads to rectangular current pulses, the mean duration
