1. Controle de capitais, crescimento e bem-estar: uma análise baseada no modelo de Ramssey para uma pequena economia aberta e com restrição de crédito externo.
This dissertation investigates the impact of the control of capitals on the growth and welfare in a small open economy of one sector, subject to technological shocks and with limited access to the international capital market. The supply of capital is imperfect due to the risk aversion on the part of the international investors. The results of the model show

2. The quasi-degenerative Raman model and entanglement reciprocation / O modelo Raman quase-degenerado e transferencia de emaranhamento
The main purpose of this dissertation is to study a new model to describe the interaction between an atom and a mode of the quantized electromagnetic field and also its application to the entanglement reciprocation problem between qubits and continuous variable systems. Firstly, we review the main model used to describe the atom field interaction, known as th

3. Um teste de especificaÃÃo correta em modelos de regressÃo beta
The beta regression model introduced by Ferrari &Cribari-Neto (2004) is useful for modelling responses that assume values in the standard unit interval (0, 1). The beta parametrization used is based on mean and precision parameters, and the mean response is related to a linear predictor through a link function. The chief goal of this thesis is to propose a m

4. Replication of the retroviral terminal repeat sequence during in vivo reverse transcription.
There is a copy of a short terminal repeat segment, r, at each end of the retroviral RNA genome. During reverse transcription, r is copied from the genomic RNA to form the R component of the long terminal repeat in viral DNA. Although our current model for reverse transcription suggests that the 5' r is copied, it is not known whether the 5' copy, the 3' cop

5. The NEF4 Complex Regulates Rad4 Levels and Utilizes Snf2/Swi2-Related ATPase Activity for Nucleotide Excision Repair
Nucleotide excision repair factor 4 (NEF4) is required for repair of nontranscribed DNA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Rad7 and the Snf2/Swi2-related ATPase Rad16 are NEF4 subunits. We report previously unrecognized similarity between Rad7 and F-box proteins. Rad16 contains a RING domain embedded within its ATPase domain, and the presence of these motifs in NE

6. Resolution of chlamydial genital infection in B-cell-deficient mice and immunity to reinfection.
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relative roles of the humoral and cell-mediated immune responses in the resolution of chlamydial genital infection of mice and resistance to reinfection. To this end, female BALB/c mice were rendered B cell deficient by treatment with heterologous anti-immunoglobulin M (IgM) serum from birth. Controls we

7. Prior Genital Tract Infection with a Murine or Human Biovar of Chlamydia trachomatis Protects Mice against Heterotypic Challenge Infection
We sought to assess the degree of cross-protective immunity in a mouse model of chlamydial genital tract infection. Following resolution of genital infection with the mouse pneumonitis (MoPn) biovar of Chlamydia trachomatis, mice were challenged intravaginally with either MoPn or human serovar E or L2. The majority of animals previously infected with MoPn we

8. Role for Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase in Protection from Chronic Chlamydia trachomatis Urogenital Disease in Mice and Its Regulation by Oxygen Free Radicals
It has been previously reported that although inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) gene knockout (NOS2−/−) mice resolve Chlamydia trachomatis genital infection, the production of reactive nitrogen species (RNS) via iNOS protects a significant proportion of mice from hydrosalpinx formation and infertility. We now report that higher in vivo RNS productio

9. Resolution of chlamydial genital infection with antigen-specific T-lymphocyte lines.
To determine cell-mediated immune mechanisms involved in the resolution of chlamydial genital infection of mice, we utilized an established murine model in which it has been demonstrated that resolution of infection occurs independently of the antibody response. Splenic T lymphocytes were obtained from mice that had previously been immunized with viable elem

10. Isolation and characterization of a Chinese hamster ovary mutant cell line with altered sensitivity to vaccinia virus killing.
The Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell line is nonpermissive for vaccinia virus, and translation of viral intermediate genes was reported to be blocked (A. Ramsey-Ewing and B. Moss, Virology 206:984-993, 1995). However, cells are readily killed by vaccinia virus. A vaccinia virus-resistant CHO mutant, VV5-4, was isolated by retroviral insertional mutagenesis.
