2. Pituitary deficiency after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
OBJECTIVE: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage puts patients at high risk for the development of pituitary insufficiency. We evaluated the incidence of pituitary dysfunction in these patients and its correlation with clinical outcome. METHODS: Pituitary function was tested in 66 consecutive patients in the first 15 days after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorr

3. Endophenotypes and serotonergic polymorphisms associated with treatment response in obsessive-compulsive disorder
OBJECTIVES: Approximately 40-60% of obsessive-compulsive disorder patients are nonresponsive to serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Genetic markers associated with treatment response remain largely unknown. We aimed (1) to investigate a possible association of serotonergic polymorphisms in obsessive-compulsive disorder patients and therapeutic response to selecti

4. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis in anxiety and panic
This review article focuses on the differential activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in generalized anxiety and panic. The results of experimental studies that assayed adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol and prolactin show that real-life panic attacks as well as those induced by selective panicogenic agents, such as lactate and carbo

6. Resposta neuroendócrina aguda ao citalopram e resposta terapêutica no transtorno obsessivo-compulsivo / Acute neuroendocrine response to citalopram and therapeutic response in obsessive-compulsive disorder
O ob

7. Prolactin and cortisol levels in women with endometriosis
Endometriosis is a progressive estrogen-dependent disease affecting women during their reproductive years. The objective of the present study was to investigate whether endometriosis is associated with stress parameters. We determined cortisol and prolactin levels in serum, peritoneal and follicular fluid from infertile women with endometriosis and fertile w

8. Autonomic and neuroendocrine responses to traumatic memory retrieval / Respostas autonômicas e neuroendócrinas à recuperação de memórias traumáticas
Several procedures are capable to induce retrieval of traumatic memories (RecMem). Psychotherapy techniques have been used to reduce the traumatic memories emotional response through rebuilding and re-meaning of the traumatic memories based on the subject´s resilience. Clinical signs of autonomic activation may be seen during RecMem, not representing reacti

9. AnÃlise dos distÃrbios hormonais na hemorragia subaracnÃidea, por ruptura de aneurisma intracraniano
Purpose: It is known that in severe head and brain trauma, hypothyroidism occurs. Some trials have assessed that these alterations also occur in subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by rupture of a brain aneurism. The present study has the purpose of assessing the hormone alterations that occurred in 21 subarachnoid hem orrhage patients as well as correlating such

10. Absolute requirement of glucocorticoid for expression of the casein gene in the presence of prolactin.
Second thoracic mammary glands of immature BALB/c female mice were stimulated to pregnancy-like lobuloalveolar (LA) development aftr 6 days of incubation in a corticosteroid-free step I culture medium containing insulin, prolactin, estradiol, progesterone, and growth hormone. A low basal level (0.0009%) of casein mRNA (mRNAcsn) sequences was detectable in th

11. Cortisol rapidly reduces prolactin release and cAMP and 45Ca2+ accumulation in the cichlid fish pituitary in vitro.
During in vitro incubation, prolactin release is inhibited in a dose-related manner by cortisol. This action is mimicked by the synthetic glucocorticoid agonist dexamethasone but not by other steroids tested. Perifusion studies indicate that the inhibition of [3H]prolactin release by cortisol occurs within 20 min. Cortisol (50 nM) also inhibits cAMP accumula

12. Serum prolactin and cortisol concentrations after grand mal seizures.
Serial serum prolactin and cortisol levels were measured in five patients after a grand mal seizure and in four volunteers with simulated seizures. Single levels were measured after a witnessed seizure in 26 patients and in a matched control group. Significant increase in both prolactin and cortisol levels occurred after seizures. The change in cortisol leve
