15. Characterization and comparison of yeasts from different sources for some probiotic properties and exopolysaccharide production
Abstract A total of 134 strains of yeasts isolated from fruits and vegetables (certain berry fruits, apples, pomegranates, carrots and grapes), free-range chicken feces and dairy products, and from 10 commercial yeast preparations were identified and subjected to analyses to determine their in vitro probiotic properties. Based on 26S rRNA sequence analysis a

16. ANALYSIS OF MIXED INTEGER PROGRAMMING FORMULATIONS FOR SINGLE MACHINE SCHEDULING PROBLEMS WITH SEQUENCE DEPENDENT SETUP TIMES AND RELEASE DATES
ABSTRACT The scheduling of jobs over a single machine with sequence dependent setups is a classical problem setting that appears in many practical applications in production planning and logistics. In this work, we analyze six mixed-integer formulation paradigms for this classical context considering release dates and two objective functions: the total weigh

17. Use of technological tools to evaluate handwriting production of the alphabet and pseudocharacters by Brazilian students
OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to characterize and compare the handwriting performance of Brazilian students from the 3rd to the 5th grade level of elementary school I with a computerized instrument that allowed the real performance to be observed during the execution of the handwriting. METHODS: Ninety-five students, aged 8 years to 11 years and 11 months, w

18. In silico characterization of microRNAs-like sequences in the genome of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis
Abstract Eukaryotic cells have different mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation. Among these mechanisms, microRNAs promote regulation of targets by cleavage or degradation of the mRNA. Fungi of the Paracoccidioides complex are the etiological agents of the main systemic mycosis of Latin America. These fungi present a plasticity to adapt and survive in

19. Genome sequence of the H2-producing Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21 isolated from a sugarcane vinasse treatment plant
Abstract We report on the nearly complete genome sequence of Clostridium beijerinckii strain Br21, formerly isolated from a sugarcarne vinasse wastewater treatment plant. The resulting genome is ca. 5.9 Mbp in length and resembles the size of previously published C. beijerinckii genomes. We annotated the genome sequence and predicted a total of 5323 genes. S

20. Molecular epidemiology of 16S rRNA methyltransferase in Brazil: RmtG in Klebsiella aerogenes ST93 (CC4)
Abstract Aminoglycosides are a class of antibiotics that play a key role in antimicrobial treatment of Multidrug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacilli, typically in combination with β-lactams. Ribosomal 16S RNA modification by methyltransferases (e.g. RmtG) is an aminoglycoside resistance mechanism that, along with the occurrence carbapenem-resistant Entero

21. Microbial characterization and diversity of artisanal Ranchero cheese with emphasis in Lactococcus strains
Abstract The aim of this work is to characterize the natural microflora of artisanal Ranchero cheese and to identify Lactococcus isolates. Ten artisanal Ranchero cheese samples made with raw milk were obtained from local producers located in different geographical areas. Aerobic mesophilic, Staphylococci, Psychrophilic , total coliforms, molds, yeast and, l

22. Optimization of reinforced concrete polygonal sections under biaxial bending with axial force
Abstract Concrete is the world’s most utilized material for production of the structural elements employed in civil construction. Due to its low tensile strength and brittle nature it is reinforced with steel bars forming the reinforced concrete (RC structure). Linear elements of reinforced concrete are commonly employed in multi-story buildings, bridges,

23. Sequence analysis of the cDNA encoding for SpCTx: a lethal factor from scorpionfish venom ( Scorpaena plumieri )
Abstract Background: Lethal factors are multifunctional oligomeric proteins found in the venomous apparatus of Scorpaeniformes fish. These toxins elicit not only an array of biological responses in vitro but also cardiovascular disorders and strong hemolytic, nociceptive and edematogenic activities in vivo. This work describes the cloning and molecular iden

24. Screening a bacterium and its effect on the biological degumming of ramie and kenaf
ABSTRACT: Biological degumming is an eco-friendly, efficient, high-quality and low-cost method that has become the leading bast fiber degumming technology. However, bacterial strains with short degumming cycles, high gum removal rates and small fiber damage are few. To screen high quality microbial resources with bast-fiber biological degumming function, soi
